Landlord has left me with just gaffer tape to close ground floor window

My studio is ground floor, street facing in London. At around 1pm the spindle in the ancient double glazing handle broke. I immediately texted the LL who said her husband would be round in half an hour. He came at 1.45 and tried to break the handle lock off then said he was going to get more tools. Two hours later he took the entire window out and left me freezing, unable to leave my home and at risk of someone climbing in, saying he was taking the window to the shop to get a handle fixed. One and a half hours later, he turned up with a drug addict friend of his with some story about the shop being closed early due to Covid (despite earlier telling me he had spoken to the shop owner who told him he was open until 5.30pm. The fitted the window frame in minus the lock and handle and gave me a roll of gaffer tape to 'seal' the window. I am female living alone on the street facing ground floor. AIBU to have expected more than this to ensure my safety?

Eviction notice is invalid without the deposit being protected. Please seek legal advice, I don’t think Shelter deal with private rentals, but definitely try them and also Citizens Advice.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say thank you for all the excellent advice. I have had to chase the LL all the way to get the window replaced. the husband was supposed to come at 8.45 this morning. I waited and waited until 11.45 then sent her a message basically saying where is he? 20 mins later he arrived and took the window off and away with him. I heard nothing all afternoon and at 5.30, I sent her a message saying it is dark, the temperature is dropping, what is happening with the window? 20 minutes later he rocked up with the window and has refitted it with a new handle. It doesn't close smoothly or anywhere remotely like a professionally installed window would but with slamming shut and a hard twist, I can at least close the handle and I am secure. My new problem is that I posted the photo of the fuse box and got a PM from someone who is a registered electrician saying it looks as though the electricity meter is bering bypassed! this doesn't surprise me given what absolute scumbags my LL and her husband are!!

@Elizabella please call the fire brigade on the non-emergency line, if you haven't done so already, and the Environmental Health. I once had to report a landlord for unsafe wiring and they came in less than 10 days (that was Merton borough).

Have you got money to go elsewhere? You really need to get out of this dump, for your own safety.

Good luck Flowers

I would agree that it looks like the meter has been tampered with. It would be normal to see 2 tails in and 2 out. It looks as if the phase tail (live) has been removed from the meter. Needs reporting as potentially extremely dangerous. www.stayenergysafe.co.uk/

I would contact your electricity supplier rather than an electrician about the fuse box. Chances are that they aren't paying for it and they'd be very interested.
