To ask where you get clothes for your tall 8/9 y/o DD from?

DD is 8, will be 9 in spring. She takes after DH who is well over 6ft tall, she's already up to my shoulder & in a size 2 shoe. Average build for her height. I did the the annual overhaul of her clothes yesterday, horrified to discover she is already wearing age 10-11 & some 11-12 clothes that I'd bought last year. The 9-10 stuff is too short. But most clothes the size she needs are much more "grown up" in style than she likes. She still likes typical little girl clothes, she mostly prefers pink & sparkly unicorns etc on her clothes, bright colours etc, not teenage type designs & dark colours. Prefers dresses in jersey fabrics or leggings rather than trousers (she has ASD, it may be a textural thing).

Also, we're not well off - H&M used to be our go-to but they do very little that appeals to her now. I get her the Joules dresses but only at sale time. She's allergic to wool. And we're nowhere near London.

Bumping for you as I'm certain I'll have this problem in a few years. I'm 6 ft tall and DD is long and slim. GAP and Zara have always been quite good for the length. Laredoute have some quite colourful stuff she might like.

Trailing1 · 23/11/2020 14:45

Watching with interest as my 7 year old is very tall for her age.

ExplodingCarrots · 23/11/2020 14:46

Hi OP. I sympathise. My DD turned 7 in September and she's already a size 2 shoe and in 10-11 clothes. She costs a fortune as she doesn't stay in sizes long. I'll be honest and say I get most things from primark because she's not in things long. I find Next very good and also matalan.

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 23/11/2020 14:47

Watching too as my 7.5 year olds is already way above average in height and us already in 9-10

Cupoftchaiagain · 23/11/2020 14:51

Same here! Uniqlo age 11-12 leggings, mountain warehouse for fleeces, Sainsbury’s sometimes have nice prints
Gap in the sale for T-shirts
Dresses are tricky. Luckily mine is happy in T-shirts jumpers and shorts over leggings.

redmimi · 23/11/2020 14:56

Matalan and Sainsbury's both have some nice clothes in the older ages that aren't too grown up.

Iamclearlyamug · 23/11/2020 14:57

I really sympathise - my almost 9 year old is so slim that anything long enough is falling down, and anything that fits her waist is an ankle swinger 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I’ve given up and I buy all her jeans and leggings from a shop called LC Waikiki in Turkey (my fiancé is a Turk) they seem to cater much better for the slim long-legged types! I can’t remember the last time I found a pair of jeans or leggings in any UK store that fits DD 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 23/11/2020 15:01

M&S are generous length wise and usually have adjustable waists - I have a lot for 10 year old dd from there - not too teenage , colourful tie dye and sequins etc .

DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/11/2020 15:02

Same here.

M&S leggings are really stretchy. So 11-12 yrs are ok for 9yr old.

Fatface otherwise. I wait for the sales.

RandomMess · 23/11/2020 15:07

What is vertbaudet like these days?

I found it a case of really digging around tbh.

nettytree · 23/11/2020 15:10

My 10 year old is wearing 13/14 year old clothes. Her feet are size 4. She has even got some adult sizes from places like the gap.

HairyToity · 23/11/2020 15:11

We're similar position. I manage to find clothes DD likes in Sainsburys and Next.

DialsMavis · 23/11/2020 15:13

Reserved are worth a punt too, some of it is too grown up but I have got some really nice bits for my tall DD

junenotoffred · 23/11/2020 15:26

Another one with the same problem - my just 6 year old is in 9-10/10-11 depending where it's from but as she's so slender lots of things drown her width wise. The vast majority of her clothes is Boden because they do age appropriate stuff up to 11-12 and lots of stuff up to 16. she has done bits from John Lewis too but I'm really starting to struggle now. The day someone opens a "long tall sally" for children will be a good one!

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 23/11/2020 15:36

Same here DD5 is taking her height from her 6ft tall dad, she’s in age 7-8 in River Island clothes. I used to buy her Asda because she grows of them so quickly but I like the quality of RI kids clothes and think they wash quite well

TheDowagerDuchess · 23/11/2020 15:38

My dd is a bit older, but was already tall aged 9.

I used to get Boden at that age, but only in the sale. I think they’ve got some reductions now. They do clothes in “younger” styles up to a higher age group, probably because their target audience wants that.

H & M has always fitted dd well though too.

TheDowagerDuchess · 23/11/2020 15:39

Would agree with recommendation of M and S leggings too.

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 23/11/2020 15:40

Thanks I'll have a look. She's in proportion height vs. weight, she eats quite a lot as we're about a mile from the school & it's quite a hill to climb on the way home so she has a good appetite. I agree re the "Long Tall Sally" idea for kids. I think by the time she's 10 she'll be taller than me. She's grown 4 inches since January.

I only have boys so apologies if this isn't helpful but have you tried tops from the boys section? You can often get plain T-shirts in bright colours and they look bigger than tops aimed at girls in the same size.

nevernotstruggling · 23/11/2020 17:52

Yep we have this issue too plus dd1 is v fussy anyway. We have had success in matalan lately lots of nice leggings and fliffy jumpers she liked.
