to ask where should I go?

This lockdown has shown me that I hate where I live. It’s busy commuter belt and I want to live somewhere beautiful. Woodland, views, hills, stunning landscape. I want to move but don’t know where to go. Where in the uk is beautiful to live? With lovely community and decent schools? Help please! Not London. I don’t want crowding. I want gorgeous. Somewhere that will take my breath away every day. Thanks

Come to Scotland, it’s so much nicer here Grin

Supereager · 23/11/2020 06:04

Scotland is beautiful

Skipton area. Or Lancaster area.

Supereager · 23/11/2020 06:10

Skipton? I’ve never been there or really heard of it. Thanks for the tip

Beautiful Yorkshire here.15 minutes from the city centre, yet we can walk into the Peak district in 15 minutes in the other direction.Best of both worlds .

Wiredforsound · 23/11/2020 06:21

Northern Ireland. Miles of coastline, cheap as chips, excellent schools.

chillied · 23/11/2020 06:28

What are the work factors of where you live, do you need to get a job or can you work from home anywhere with decent broadband? Do you need to be reasonably close to any family?

Without any of those factors I'd say Lake.district. Snowdonia. Parts of Devon.and Dorset.

Wyntersdiary · 23/11/2020 06:50

I live in Devon, hate it.. moving next month.
I love Hampshire like all around the new forest. Some gorgeous sites to see and my aim is to get back there one day

MummmyDayCareNameChangeAGAIN · 23/11/2020 06:54

Charmouth In Dorset. Lovely little village school near the beach. Pubs/ restaurant & amazing fish and chips. Also lovely village butchers and bakers. About a 10min drive from the incredible lyme Regis.

Supereager · 23/11/2020 06:56

No work factors. No family factors. Have family scattered all over. Not in areas I’d want to live. Dorset is expensive isn’t it? Snowdonia and Lake District are interesting ideas. I want big views. Big skies. Beauty. Majestic hills. That kind of thing. Outdoor living. Lots going on with exercise and outdoor pursuits.

@Wyntersdiary why do you hate it?

Yorkshire - that is all!

bigbirdsmate · 23/11/2020 06:58

Well you can't even get property viewings where I live because so many Londoners are moving out of London. I think lots of people thinking the same as you!

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 23/11/2020 07:00

Derbyshire Peak District. Ticks all of your boxes.

SparklyGlitter95 · 23/11/2020 07:01

Northumberland!

Pumpertrumper · 23/11/2020 07:04

Yorkshire is a sort of half way house between the southern cities and Scotland.

It’s still somewhat commutable (by train) to London yet rural, beautiful and better value.

It’s not as ‘dramatically beautiful’ as parts of Scotland are and can be a bit pricier (both dependant on area and house type obviously) but if you don’t want to go quite as far as moving to the arse end of nowhere Scotland which poses its own issues if you’re not used to that level of reclusive life, then it’s a pretty good half way house.

Pumpertrumper · 23/11/2020 07:05

The wolds are lovely, as are the moors.
Skipton and surrounding areas are breathtaking.

Wyntersdiary · 23/11/2020 07:30

@Supereager Just not my kind of place. i feel there is a lot less to do here than other places and i dont like beaches anyway so never go to them and its expensive for what is effectively crap housing

Supereager · 23/11/2020 07:32

Yes I agree about the beaches. It’s nice for a few weeks when the weather is nice. I’m more of a woodland/hills/waterfall person

I’m in east Cheshire.
I am 20 mins on the train into Manchester City centre, or 10 min drive into the Peak District, with forest, reservoirs and hills on my doorstep.
I live right by a canal with beautiful walks.
But still in a reasonable sized town with great schools and amenities. I love it.
The only thing that would make it better is if I were closer to the beach, as I grew up by the sea and miss it a lot.
