To feel bad for using amazon prime?

So, to begin with I wanted to get my money's worth. I'd order a couple of items a week, especially school resources when we were home schooling.
But now I've fallen into a habit where if I can't be arsed to go to the shop, or forget something on the weekly shop then I'll just amazon prime it.
So a single bottle of deodorant, £2 with free postage, shower gel £1 with free postage, hot chocolate powder £1.50, batteries, kitchen roll, antibac wipes, etc etc.
I know that in theory I'm taking money away from the high street, but on the other hand I'm saving petrol, reducing the risk of spreading covid, saving time, less pollution.
Plus the amazon vans are all electric, and they come to my neighbours pretty much every day anyway, so they are still coming this way whether I use them or not.
The packaging situation annoys me, but I recycle almost all of their packaging.
Is it ok to use prime this often, or should I be using supermarkets?

I also spend a fortune in etsy with small businesses

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 22/11/2020 23:32

I buy loads as well from there, 294 things this year to be precise and about the same last year, I think most with Prime do.

@FippertyGibbett

Someone is getting paid to do it. Don’t feel guilty.
Yes, Amazon is keeping people in work.

Buy in bulk if you can afford it, it is cheaper and generally less wasteful in terms of packaging than buying single items. I use Amazon a lot but rarely buy just one thing at a time. It doesn't have to be 'hundreds' but maybe six at a time of something that I use regularly.

Could you make a list and order from Boots/Superdrug etc online?

I get the convenience of Prime and use it myself for certain bit but household stuff you can get anywhere or wait until your food shop seems a bit unnecessary

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 22/11/2020 23:39

I usually buy household stuff in bulk from Amazon on offer and it’s easier than Tesco or Waitrose delivering it bit by bit with the weekly shop

You're fine .. don't need to organise yourself better Hmm worlds hard enough and bigger things to worry about and that's before 2020 happened .. give yourself peace x

What a yawn

Pepperama · 22/11/2020 23:53

Same here. They pay a tiny amount of tax in the UK so try to limit my spend but it’s just so convenient and at the moment I can’t go to shops. For non urgent items I’ve started adding them to a list, and I only check them out once I have a few together. At least saves on some journeys

WorraLiberty · 23/11/2020 00:08

I was just thinking today (particularly as a non car owner) that I don't know how I'd manage without Amazon Prime now.

But most of the things you mention OP, I add to my weekly Morrisons delivery.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 23/11/2020 00:09

love the convenience of prime - but I do leave stuff in the basket unless its urgent (or not being sent by amazon).

The subscribe and save comments made me smile - I organised that recently with "who gives a crap" toilet paper. They suggested a box would last 16 weeks for a one person household, and I didn't work it through in my head. Now I've started using them, each roll lasts a couple of weeks, so closer to two years Hmm

@ sst1234
did Henry Ford monopolize the car industry so that prices went up and cause all the horse and coachman to be out of jobs? Did Microsoft monopolize computers to the point that no one can now afford one and typists could find no other work?
No, but Ford did contribute to coachmen being out of work and the advent of mass computers and the internet has ensured that typists are no longer needed and less secretaries and filing clerks are employed.
Similarly Amazon and Tesco have caused many small high streets and specialist shops to shut already and they are now helping with the demise of the small corner shops and convenience stores.
