Neighbours flashing lights!

withlotsoflove · 22/11/2020 17:36

Can l have some opinions please.
My neighbours have installed their Christmas flashing light set up again....
It is on the side of their living room window ( OUTSIDE) which is parallel to our bedroom window.
It runs still... then a flashing setting which would put Oxford Street to shame!
Last year it constantly woke me up as it is powerful enough to go through / and under my lined curtains!
When it is still - it isn’t a problem. Flashing lights are though.
AIBU to ask if they can either turn them off overnight or set it so it stays still ( l guess )
😉
Thank u all.

I'm a grinch about outdoor decorations. The front gardens here are approx. 2m long as crow flies (lots of the houses on quite a steep gradient). Lots of those air-filled figures waving about and strobing lights is like walking through a foul neurological experiment based on a House of Mirrors and dodge the wobbling muggers on your way home. Thoroughly unnerving.

Those air filled figures remind me of Two and half Men but I can’t find the clip.

I’m fine with them at gas stations in the US. For some reason, seeing them here freaks me out. That display sounds nightmarish! And tasteless. Unless your neighbour is running a gas station....

I have lights in my window i would never keep them on all night though, how strange! 4-9 for ours.
I have just swapped them for colourful ones though as i thought they looked more festive..
Wonder if i will have to change them back Blush

I'm sure you can complain to councils about light nuisance in the same way you can complain about noise nuisance.

thenightsky · 23/11/2020 11:25

@Macncheeseballs

Cut the wire
But wear big thick rubber gloves and wellies as it will go Bang!
Lsquiggles · 23/11/2020 11:29

I don't understand why people keep their Christmas lights on overnight, everyone is asleep and won't see them! Confused hopefully they're understanding that the lights are disturbing you

sashh · 23/11/2020 11:36

I'd let them know they are disturbing your sleep and ask if they can turn the flashing off at X time.

CounsellorTroi · 23/11/2020 11:53

Completely unnecessary to have flashing lights on all night. Awful waste of energy.

ShakeitDown · 23/11/2020 12:02

Our house faces a small cul de sac. I awoke about 3am to go to the loo and noticed flashing lights outside through our pale coloured blinds - it was the exterior Christmas lights of one of the houses in the cul de sac. It’s not too bad for us but must be horrendous for the houses facing them.
Some people are so dumb and selfish.

AcornAutumn · 23/11/2020 13:24

thenightsky

I hope you were okay
Please tell us you cut the flashing lights of some inconsiderate git!

PeggyPorschen · 23/11/2020 13:29

I'd send thenightsky to cut the wire, they seem to know their stuff Grin

UPDATE: lights went on and on in all their glory last night. ( l checked)
However, l rigged a bit of my daughter’s old wardrobe against the window ledge / pushed into the curtain & it actually took care of the whole display!
I’m shocked as usually the light got through the sides.
It’s going to be a ridiculous palaver- but free & will keep the peace.

Reading this thread, l realised l haven’t got it so bad. I’m so sorry for those of you suffering so much worse than me!

Shame, now they'll never know

KatnissNeverseen · 23/11/2020 14:46

I have just put mine up but they are on a timer and go off at midnight. Ask your neighbor to do the same with theirs or they will have a very expensive electricity bill.

You shouldn’t have to do that

Just speak to them.

Felifox · 23/11/2020 17:49

@withlotsoflove I wonder what it would look like if you put some tin foil under your curtains? Would it reflect the flashing lights back at them? I'd have to try that.

How did it go?
