Panicking about nosebleeds? 6YO

Probably just need someone to tell me to get a grip, but my 6 year old had a nosebleed Friday night, her first ever one. Randomly started, cleaned her up all fine. She had another last night which was like a blood bath, blood splattered all over bathroom, soaking toilet roll in seconds, she was spitting clots of blood from her mouth, lasted around 10 minutes. She's still been spitting blood from her mouth today and a hour ago her nose started bleeding again with more clots in her mouth, she still has drops of blood although it's not a continuous stream now.

Is this normal?

You should check with a medial professional but my son has nosebleeds like this (sometimes in the middle of the night) - the GP wasn’t concerned once he’d asked us some questions so it can be normal but it’s probably worth getting checked out.

I used to have bad nosebleeds as a child, had my nose cauterised a few times. If it carries on I would contact your GP.

DS (12) goes through phases of having very sudden, very gushy nosebleeds. It started a few years ago. GP said it was normal and nothing to worry about. DS is used to it, and I’ve become attuned to the particular “Muuuuuuum!” call that he gives when one starts, so I can grab some tissues and help.

My grandson started with horrendous nose bleeds round about the same age. Unbelievably bad. Always scary seeing all that blood but he rarely gets them now he’s a teen.

I had nosebleeds like that and so does my DD. They sent us to a&E once cos of a bad one and they cauterised the vein to stop it. That was about 9 ish years ago and she has just started having them again, but not as bad.
It's worrying cos it's blood and looks horrific but unless it's bleeding for a long time and regularly, they won't see it as much of an issue.

My ds is 6 and has random nosebleeds like you described every so often. He won’t have one for weeks/months at a time and then one will come on all of a sudden and he will have them regularly (1 to 2 a day) for a few day’s and they suddenly stop again.
He used to be terrified and panic at first but he is used to them now. GP not remotely concerned, said it was fairly common.
My advise would be to keep an eye on her over the next couple of day’s and if she has anymore or it seems to be getting worse/ taking a long time to stop, I would seek medical advise.

Make sure she’s not picking her nose. That’s one of the main causes of nosebleeds in children.

My brother looked like he run through slaughterhouse for awhile. It turned out he had weakened tissue in his nose. Ended up getting some gel tablets to insert. It worked. Give a call to a gp maybe

Just check she doesn't have anything in there and watch if she is picking her nose.

Thank you just called 111 for advice. The doctor prescribed a cream for her nose and advised a&e if it happens again for more than 20 minutes. Would hate for her to need it cauterised, she's suspected ASD so there's no way she'd let them near her
