To think my new boss is just being an purposefully awkward and ruining everything

Long story short...I have been working in the same job for the last 5 years! It's a great job and I am great at what I do etc etc

My dh works shift and does 4 days on 4 days off in rotation so
Week 1-mon-thurs
Week 2-Tues-Friday

When I got my job I was given the Saturday and Sunday shift and then I alternate my other shift between the Friday and Monday that my dh is off.

Cut to this week... and we have a new manager (she started 2 weeks ago). She has suddenly announced that she wants me to pick the monday OR the Friday and stick to the shift as she can't be bothered trying to keep up with "what shift is ichi on this week?!Hmm

I mean it's not that hard to understand that one week I do fri, sat sun and the next week I do sat, sun and Monday
So technically I do 4 days in a row and then the following weekend iyswim

Aibu to think she is BU and just can't be arsed and she is just causing issues where there isn't any!?
Also how the hell am I supposed to find childcare for 1 day every second week!!!

If you already work this pattern and have been for the last 12 weeks it means you can stick to it legally. You have a set working routine. She can’t just change it. Talk to HR

Talk to your union person first.
I had similar after years of working a certain pattern, someone new came in and try to change it as there was nothing official. But basically because I had been doing the hours for a number of years, it showed it was in the companies benefit.
I would email my work calendar for the month and let them deal with it.

@TooStressyTooMessy

Even if it isn’t written in if you have been doing this for a while this may count for something. Disclaimer: NOT an HR expert but was in a similar position a while back. This was before Covid in a better job market though.

I would seek union / HR / ACAS advice.

This is definitely a thing I had the same problem with my new boss. My DH shifts are the same and so I worked 4 Mondays and 4 Fridays. New boss wanted me to be available wherever he wanted and in the office even though I had been a home worker for 5 years with the same “shift” pattern for 10 years. I refused, HR basically said he couldn’t do anything about it due to the fact I had worked that way for so long. Covid came,He furloughed me and then I was made redundant. Thankfully I had already started looking for a job and started a week later. It was pretty shitty after being there and working hard for 19 years.

What I mean op is if she can’t get you that way she might just find another way.

ichiichi · 22/11/2020 15:14

@geekone thank you. I'm in the toilet after handover so just a quick one. My job is not affected in any way by Covid. We are not furloughing staff.

Thank you all. I will call the Union tomorrow and get it sorted.

geekone, glad you found another job. What a horrible boss!
