Children in need song - Stop crying your heart out'?

So I might have been living under a rock for a couple of weeks, but I've only just heard this. Now I'm all for a charity fundraising singalong, but I'm stunned by the lyrics.

Stop crying your eyes out?

Did they not think to consider what Children in Need is all about? These are some of the most utterly vulnerable children in society whose lives are being devastated by circumstances and actions way beyond their control, and they should stop crying about it? Really?

For many, many young people, in every town and city in the UK, every day is a struggle. You might as well write a song saying 'stop being a victim of abuse', or 'stop being hungry', 'stop worrying about not having a winter coat, or proper shoes, or socks' or 'stop being trafficked to go into the sex trade'. And please stop crying about the horrific circumstances that lead you to hospitalisation, having social services involved, police intervention etc.

Stiff upper lip and a clean hanky, that'll sort it. And here's a celeb-filled song to showcase it.

Aibu to be enraged?

Maybe it means ‘stop crying about being hungry because we’ve just given you some food’. So more ‘no need to cry any more’.

I'm actually shocked by how tuneless this song is. It's pretty plodding. Where's the melody?

I don’t think song lyrics are high on priority for the children you call the most utterly vulnerable in society. I’d think they have far, far more pressing issues to think about. It’s a cover version of a popular song designed to raise the most money for charity. YABVU.

If you listen to the lyrics, they are NOT about "just stop crying", they are about having hope for the future, and that things can change for you. Very apt, I would have thought.
