And a house share should be considered rather than halls?

Depends on halls. Set up at ours was catered halls so literally a room, shared bathroom and eat in communal dining hall. Everyone was mainly 1st years 18/19 with a few students from higher years. I knew a couple of lads a bit older 21/22 ish and they sort of became leaders in their blocks due to age. Each block had an older student like a phd student in case of emergency but they had a separate room away from us. The self catering halls were much more varied and international students tended to live there and they tended to be older.

I did it at 24. I was young for my age and it was my first time away from home. Most of the 18 year olds had no idea I was older than them. I had a good time.

It's weird and the person will be seen as either pathetic or creepy

Presume you’re about 13 @Goldencurtain - you certainly can’t be mature enough to mix with adults so I’m not sure your opinion counts here.

@mrsfezziwig You beat me to it Grin

What an absurd and mean spirited thing to say.

VinylDetective · 23/11/2020 10:46

Yup, I was definitely seen as pathetic and creepy 🙄

Creepy??? You do realise that university students are supposed to be ADULTS and that other young people their age who do not attend university will be out in workplaces mixing with people of all ages and living in rented accommodation which again caters for all ages.

What is it with the infantilising of the university-educated population?

YoniAndGuy · 23/11/2020 11:24

Not necessarily, when I was in halls in first year there were at least two older - one guy of 24 who fitted in no problem. Depends on the person. Halls are arguably the best way to get in with the crowd and get to know more people - it's all a great leveller.

DH was in his mid 30s and lived in halls for his 1st and 3rd years. he just closed his eyes and ears to it all and sod what the 'kids' thought.

I was in my mid 30s when I house shared doing my Masters. One of the others was the same age, we just ignored the 20 somethings and got on with it.
