To ask at what point do you ask your neighbours to turn it down?

My upstairs neighbours are blasting Christmas music, thumping around and screeching along. They’re always noisy (music, sex, arguments) and I’ve never said anything before but the Christmas songs are driving me mad and I’m worried they’re going to wake my 2 year old up. Would you say something or only if it’s going on late into the night? (I’m not a Scrooge normally, I swear!)

11pm weekends, 10m weekdays.

InTheLongGrass · 21/11/2020 20:10

As a one off, at a reasonable time, I dont think you can say anything. Sorry.

sallyedmondson · 21/11/2020 20:16

If this is regular, totally unreasonable. Polite request first then involve landlord/council if it continues to the same extent.
I know some properties carry noise but people who live in them have to consider their neighbours.

toomanyplants · 21/11/2020 20:16

That would drive me mad too, but at 8pm Saturday I really don't think you can say anything.

riotlady · 21/11/2020 20:53

It’s regular in the sense of they’re always really noisy but not always in this specific fashion. They’re a couple and forever doing things like chasing each other round the flat squealing Hmm

I shall have to forbear and dream of one day living in a detached house!

Oh how annoying

I feel for you.

I don’t suppose you could embarrass them? Go and sing outside their door? They might just invite you in though 😂

AcornAutumn · 21/11/2020 20:58

Or you could politely ask them if they could keep it down a bit.

CharlotteRose90 · 21/11/2020 21:11

That would drive my absolutely crazy 🤣🤣. I think it’s 10 Is late enough to ask

cwtchesandprosecco · 21/11/2020 21:14

I think it’s always ok to ask. Some times people just aren’t thinking, and might be mortified to know you’ve been sat there cursing them! Keep it friendly and polite and the worse they can do is say no.

Doggybiccys · 21/11/2020 21:22

Saturday night and not a regular /once a month job - leave them to it. Anything else - dobb them in

Our neighbors are absolute nightmares for this kind of thing. Think kids screaming at each other and banging on the walls at 2am on weekdays. I’ve started telling them to stop if it’s between 11pm and 7am. Not that it actually makes a difference because they are practically feral and for some reason haven’t gone back to school after the first lockdown.

I find myself fantasising that their roof develops a leak or something that will mean they need to stay elsewhere for a while
