Moved house - cat disappeared. When do I start panicking?

We recently moved, I waited the recommended 2 weeks and he was itching to get out by the end.

So for the past couple of days he's been out in the garden but stayed very close by and kept coming back to the door/me where I'd give him a treat when he came back to me.

Anyway, this morning he did his usual garden rounds and then hopped over the fence. He came back a short while later, I gave him a treat, he came in and then went out again, back over the fence.

That was about 11am. Still no sign since despite me calling Sad

Hoping he's just grown a bit of confidence over last few days to go exploring. He always was an outside loving cat, but it worries me that we are somewhere new.

Posting for traffic here sorry!

Im sure he will be back, just out exploring probobly.
When we moved, our cat managed to escape after 4 days, we was proper panicking, did posters, went searching, 8 days later we got a call from neibour at our old house and she had turnt up there, 7 miles away Shock

Any sign? @GoodnessMeMrKay
I hope you find him soon

LagneyandCasey · 22/11/2020 19:00

I hope he's back home now 🐈

Hope so too. Keep a snack out And water out and his litter tray too, call him in the morning. Sure you will up at dawn waiting for him.

The recommended time is 6 weeks when you move to a new area, not two.

Ask any rescue, I know your cat is not new, but when you move you must give it time to view the area from a window, then supervise when let out.

@GoodnessMeMrKay

Have been calling, nothing yet Sad

We've moved a good few miles from our old home so I doubt he'd be back there.

The problem I now have is leaving things open, I can't really do that we we have another cat who I'd rather not let out at night as well (she can't sleep upstairs as she goes mad at night!).

Cars will travel miles to get back to a familiar territory - speak to your old neighbours and post on local FB groups

Did you explore any out of the way nooks and crannies in your new house? When we moved eons ago our cat went missing after the first day but we'd never let him out, the worst part was we could hear him! Eventually OH remembered lifting a hatch in the floor under the stairs, the house was built on a hillside and there was a void under, we lifted that and a very hangry moggy jumped out!
Good luck with your's.

Has he returned?

AmyandPhilipfan · 22/11/2020 23:49

One of mine did this a couple of times when we moved into our old place. But in our previous flat he’d been pretty much an indoor cat as we had nowhere outside for him to go other than the road. So when we moved and he had some space to roam and seized the opportunity! Twice in the first couple of months he stayed out for about 12 hours but then never did it again. Since then, he goes out but prefers to be in and even when we moved again he didn’t repeat his staying out for hours exploring trick.

Any news?
