What do you think next year will look like?

Wandafishcake · 21/11/2020 19:41

January- Brexit shitstorm, continued covid restrictions.

February & March covid restrictions start to ease due to vaccine but v.cautiously.

April-May Life starts looking more notmal

June-August We enjoy the summer we missed out on this year.

Sept-December A whole lot better than this year.

SonjaMorgan · 21/11/2020 19:42

2020 was incredibly disappointing as all of my aims were wrapped up in my work (now all gone). 2021 will be great. I have learnt a lot and I am going to work on self improvement and things within my control.

LD22020 · 21/11/2020 20:04

I think pandemic will ease greatly by March but brexit could be an utter shitshow to replace it with

Flyonawalk · 21/11/2020 20:08

A lot of people will be drastically poorer, sadly. Businesses will be collapsing and unemployment high. A mountain of government debt so further squeezes on education, healthcare, welfare.

Not what I hope for obviously but what I think is likely.

FredtheFerret · 21/11/2020 20:11

I don't think much will change over the winter, but hopefully when Spring arrives the sun will come out and there will be a gradual improvement as we head into summer!

That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

TheStripes · 21/11/2020 20:11

First third to half of the year will be fairly similar to the last few months in terms of quite major restrictions. Then it’ll be more like the summer months before some restrictions as the weather gets colder next year.

Sadly I foresee enough people refusing the vaccine so we won’t get back to relative normality for longer than needed. The economic and personal financial repercussions of this are likely to be felt for many years.

Denthelp · 21/11/2020 22:30

@TheStripes I agree. No one wants to be the first to have it so may be harder to achieve the desired outcome they are hoping for.

ArmchairCritics · 21/11/2020 23:05

Agree with @Flyonawalk and also @TheStripes. I think many people are still MASSIVELY underestimating the impact of Brexit as of the 1st of January in terms of both supply chains etc and also the economy. Any deal made now will be threadbare, never mind no deal. I think the challenges next year will be in some senses different. But sadly not less. I also agree that there’s a real danger of the anti-vax and conspiracy movements having a real impact on our ability to achieve anything like herd immunity as quickly as is theoretically possible, so restrictions will be in place for even longer.

KatieGGGG · 21/11/2020 23:08

Lockdown more or less January to March.

Easing over the rest of the year.

I don’t see life without social distancing or track and trace until at least 2022 or even later.

Whattheactual20201 · 21/11/2020 23:29

I think January - March a bloody mess 🤣
Settling after that but between covid and Brexit it won’t be an easy year.

quarentini · 21/11/2020 23:47

January to March pretty much lockdown
Then restrictions eased but mass unemployment, house repossessions, mental health issues, poverty and brexit

Moonmelodies · 21/11/2020 23:51

Depends what Covid-20 is like.

Flyonawalk · 22/11/2020 12:33

Good point from @ArmchairCritics about the impact of Brexit. Likely to be severe I think.

Yes, this! Then the hard work of rebuilding our economy will begin. We'll get there eventually though.
CakeRequired · 22/11/2020 13:03

Well I had thought pretty much like this one, but now that they have a vaccine, the first half might be shit, but the rest might be better. Smile Well covid wise at least, but brexit wise? Oh dear we might be in for a tough one.

AgeLikeWine · 22/11/2020 13:04

The first quarter will be very similar to 2020, but there will at least be hope. Then things will gradually improve as the sectors which have been hit hardest by the pandemic, ie travel, aviation, events, arts, hospitality gradually rebuild.

By summer, there will be an explosion of pent-up demand for holidays abroad. By autumn, everyday life will be completely back to normal, but the economic damage of the pandemic will take decades to repair.

Why did SARS not spread like COVID-19?
