First time making a Christmas pudding and we're planning to have our first mulled wine of the season to accompany the baking! Anyone else?

Ours is in the oven now steaming away in a roasting tin filled with water. Christmas pudding is my favourite part of Christmas 🌲🌲🌲🌲

@honeybeetheoneandonly

You put it in the slow cooker, then fill with boiling water to halfway up the pudding basin and cook on high for 10 hours.
I put a tea towel under the lid to keep steam in and it cooks beautifully.

Of course! Made two puds and two cakes today. I do this every year- Delia’s classic Christmas cake and Eliza Acton’s Christmas pudding.

Probably get cries of disgust for this but....I steamed up our pudding yesterday that was made 2 years ago and has been stored in a cool dark cupboard since. Think the oldest pudding we have eaten was 4 years old. It’s my late Mum’s recipe and never caused us any problems. I think it’s because of the amount of brandy that goes into the mix (mums recipe says 4 tablespoons of brandy or until your hand stops shaking) and regular top ups in storage.

@Lansonmaid
No, I am with you! When I make the puds, I do them in Sept or October, and the receipe always makes sufficient for 2 or three years. ( Only DH and I like them so I make small ones). The only time I have come unstuck, is when I tried storing them in a fancy tin with holes in the side to put a cord through. Usually its 2 layers of greaseproof and an airtight container, works everytime for me.

Yes we did!

I have some feeding Wilson's please.
How much do you feed and how often?
Any technique?
I use about a shot glass full once a week but it keeps pouring over the sides, rather than being absorbed.
Do you use a toothpick to poke holes every time or only the first time?
(I'm worried I'm Swiss cheesing it.)

honeybeetheoneandonly · 03/12/2020 12:23

Wtf? I'm having feeding questions not "feeding Wilson's"!
