to think that parents evening should be in the morning

as I have to be there at 7.15. what is the betting me and teach will just sit there yawning.

Morning doesn't work well for parents who work, though. It's a tough one. DD's school has meetings for parents about what work they are doing that term. They held the first one at the end of the school day (i.e. 2.30-3.00) and I complained because anyone who worked (unless they worked round the corner and could take a late lunch or something) had to take the whole day off to go. Now they hold them at 9.00, so at least it's possible to just go into work a bit late on those days. But those are all parents together in a group. To see parents individually it has to be after school, I think. Sorry!

It is in the morning at DSS's school, which is a PITA as it means DP has to have a morning off work.

Our primary school meetings are in the afternoons - all the children get out early for a week, and then we get a 10min slot with our teacher.
Fairly crap as i have to get out of work for it.

Who is going to teach a school full of children while the parents talk to the teachers?

Well, as EllHell said, parents who work would find it difficult to attend, and who would be teaching the kids while the teacher was with the parents??

also my dh is a teacher - and any parent's stuff that is during the day he can't go to, as he's not allowed the time off

ours offers appointments from 3.50 until 7.15.. i always specify and get, the earliest appointment, as i struggle with childcare ..

morning would be much harder for working parents, and then there would need to be cover for the class

Is there ever a good time for a parents 'evening ' . being realistic the best time is for when the teacher can do it.

As others have said , who will teach the children in the morning. Alot of pople milling around a school during the day whilst pupils are present is not a good thing secuirity wise anyway.

If you have it from 3.30 on wards then people have to leave work early or have the kids milling around.

If you have it in the eving and both aprenst want to go then you ahve to get a babysitter.

So there is never a time good for anyone.

Off to parents evening in a bit. My Ds's school covers both times 3-5 and 6-7 and they provide a creche for those of us who can't get babysitters.

I do agree there is never a good time.
The annoying thing is. we are sent a form where we mark all the people we want to see.
so I ticked teacher/phisio/ot and salt.
both the ot and phisio will not be there(most likely due to child care issues)

If it was in the morning who would teach the kids?

If they can do mornings at 6 am I will be happy to do go!

I'm a secondary teacher so have six in the academic year and I love them.

They are between 7pm and 9pm and usually I'm a bit sleepy en route back to school but once I start talking boy o boy do I love it.

Our school does afternoon through to early evening. theres usually a time that most people can get to, and if before 6 the kids can go into homework room which is good.

But if we really can't make it that day, we can arrange to see the teacher directly after school some other evening. Or probably even before school - they seem pretty understanding of work commitments.

belgianbun they inconvenience the parents at the time they are. I usually try to get the 4.30-5.30 slot because I am supposed to take DS but not DD so she can be left in her day nursery. If I get 3.30-4.30 then I would have to book 1/2 day off work instead of just managing to juggle my hours. But despite that and returning my form next day I have been given 6pm this year so I will have to find a babysitter for DD.

We always get a babysitter on parents evenings - go along, then go out for supper to celebrate/comiserate the little cherubs school achievements. Have loved doing this since DS1 was 4.

DD would go mad if she thought we were taking DS out for supper without her.

We leave both DC at home - its just DH and I who go out for supper - I've never been a fan of taking children to parents evening - want to be able to talk to the teacher without them there

Yes I think that is preferable but our school says the child should be present but younger siblings should not be.
