neighbour on my street has been getting building work done for the past few weeks and their builders have turned the street into an absolute mess

our houses are joined by public pathways and then we have a communal row of parking, the street outside our houses is covered in wet/chalky mess which i have to walk through to get to my house, there is a trail of paint/plaster/god knows what from their house to the car park along with bits of old plaster/wood, and it is even worse at the entrance of the parking area where they have obviously loaded it into their van with more mess and what appears to be broken glass

WIBU to ask them to clear it up?

they aren't finished yet so this will continue but i have already had to ask them once not to do something so feel a bit nervous! i know they wont clear it up as they leave it in a mess every time they take anything to their van, but this time it is unbelievable.

"Hi neighbour, I was just wondering if you would be clearing this up any time soon? It's trailing everywhere when I have to walk here"

Either that or grab a bucket of soapy water and a brush and give it a swill in front of the neighbours. PA but might let them know it's not acceptable.

Or if it's a really big mess and they won't do anything about it you can always speak to the council.

Sweep it all to their drive. Wankers. I’d be mortified to cause my neighbours this!

AllesAusLiebe · 23/11/2020 23:52

Maybe we are neighbours, OP! I've got exactly the same issue.

I swept up a load of rubbish (including bits of carpet that was cut on another neighbours' drive . . . why?!), put it in a bag and returned it to the front of their house at the weekend.

I'm going to speak to them but there hasn't been anyone at the property for days and everything has just been left blowing all over the pavement and road.

Why does anyone think that this is ok?

If it's broken glass, I'd call the council too.

Talk to your neighbour - it's their responsibility to make sure their contractors clean up, which they should do every single day.

Broken glass? I'd definitely be telling them to get it sorted!
