To get a blimp over my house for delivery drivers.

Ermmmmname · 21/11/2020 00:40

Lately delivery drivers keep delivering to the wrong address and state they have delivered it to our house, they even delivered a parcel to someone down the road (in the dead of night claiming they’d delivered it to me).
WIBU to get a giant blimp with my house number to help them find the right house?
We do already have a clear house number that is lit up at night but any extra suggestions on how to make it clearer are welcome.

When you’re ordering online in the instructions box clearly describe your location
Middle house left side cul de sac
Grey Door Buzzer 2
Off the main road bottom of hill
Add your phone no
You really don’t need blimps

Ermmmmname · 21/11/2020 00:56

@SentientAndCognisant
I have all that and an extra sign on the door with a mobile number in case they missed the one on the package. Doesn’t seem to make a difference. They’re mostly left in front of the neighbours house and it’s very clear they’re separate houses and they’re different styles/colours.

This is why, in late November/early December, we switch to delivery at the local petrol station (parcel lockers) if possible. Delivery drivers somehow become incapable of finding our house according to the tracking information. we've had it from Parcel Force, Amazon, DPD, Hermes and Yodel.

We have a young male bush kangaroo and we let him out into the neighbourhood when a delivery is due. He has this ability to seek out confused drivers and motion to them to follow him before he brings them straight to our door. If I could have £1 for every driver who said "Mrs Tessiot, I had problems trying to find you, but this little fella here was trying to tell me something" then I would have about £147.

Can't tell if you're being serious or not. If you are this is amazing

Jamhandprints · 21/11/2020 07:38

@SebastianTheCrab! Tessiot is being deadly serious.
Bush kangaroo or blimp is the usual way these days. A dolphin or orca can help if you live near water.
If you cant afford a blimp, then a big neon sign on top of your house may work. As long as its visible for miles around.

Good luck.

So can we order one of these kangaroos on amazon?

@WinDins I ordered a kangaroo from Amazon but they delivered it to the wrong house.

hopeishere · 21/11/2020 07:53

I need one of these for food deliveries. I'm always having to stand in the road with my phone tracking them. This is despite having put clear instructions on the app.

Send me a kangaroo!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 21/11/2020 07:58

Bush kangaroos seem in short supply where we are.
I wonder if we can repurpose the delinquent cat from No8.

Yes but you need one already to ensure delivery of said kangaroo to correct location (as Randomdent has found out, to their cost). It’s a bit of a chicken and egg situation tbh (ps chickens are useless at parcel corralling, don’t get a chicken).
GroundAlmonds · 21/11/2020 08:02

You would think amazon kangaroos are oils deliver themselves. Confused

GroundAlmonds · 21/11/2020 08:03

One more autocorrect like that and I’m flushing my phone. Sad

Mintylizzy9 · 21/11/2020 08:08

I don’t have a problem with them finding my house more so that they just Chuck it on the doorstep and bugger off regardless of anyone being home or not. Left in plain sight for every opportunist thief! Then when a replacement is sent they do the same again!! I’m looking at you UPS 🤬 and to the toothless wonder who stole my lovely wallpaper I hope it gave you paper cuts! Lost count of the number of amazon packages just left by the door. Our regular guy is great though and always hides it well, clearly lots of new couriers at the minute.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 21/11/2020 08:09

I have complained so many times over this, since the summer we have a couple of new drivers who just do not give a bugger...the latest annoyance seems to be no longer to take photos of where the parcel has been left, but just to lie and say it was handed to the resident.

They have my address, description of location of where to abandon their vehicle to cause maximum disruption on the narrow road park, which gate is mine, what to do if no one answers, where the front door is if they fancy a better view, and What3Words for the PRECISE location of the gate, the back door and the front door, and access to my phone number as evidenced by the second delivery of the day when they phoned to say "where are you??" as I stood in the kitchen, waving out of the window at the driver

My last but one parcel was allegedly handed to the resident on Friday lunchtime ....amazon pondered that it may have been left with a neighbour, (NO) or mis-scanned onto the van, or mis scanned as someone else's delivery, or maybe not even dispatched, in spite of emails listing order, and dispatch and delivery, and I would have to wait until Tuesday to report it missing and organise a replacement.

I found it on my front step on Tuesday morning when I returned from the shops....now bearing in mind we NEVER get deliveries in the mornings from anyone....plus that it rained every minute from the alleged delivery until I left for the shops 3+days later on the tuesday morning and the wind was outstandingly windy I find it difficult to believe that bone dry and very lightweight large parcel had been there since the friday lunchtime. (Never mind that I actually checked every day.) Also we were nearly run off the road by a mysterious white van man hurtling around a bend at excess speed...see earlier point about no AM deliveries....coincidence or not?

Tessiot · 21/11/2020 08:10

If getting a kangaroo is not possible where you are then a Rough Collie will do, so long as you have a rockery or something she can stand proud on and survey the locality. If barking loudly at the driver some four miles away doesn't gain their attention, she will normally run up to them, take hold of their sleeve and lead them to your front door.

SwanShaped · 21/11/2020 08:16

Have you used what3words. It’s an app. Every single 3m square on the surface of an entire planet has a code of three random words. Eg dad/seal/pigeon. So your front door will have a code. Emergency services now use it for rescuing people or for finding houses that are hard to find. You could include this on your delivery instructions in case any delivery drivers use it too.

Oh no. Hugs and prayers @RandomDent
🙏🙏🙏

Ermmmmname · 21/11/2020 14:30

@Tessiot that is a brilliant idea, if only I could order a kangaroo outfit for my dog. She does bounce around so would be rather convincing.
I woke up this morning to a banging headache so stayed in bed, a delivery driver just tried to deliver a parcel via my bedroom window rather then either of the doors (the rest of the family is in) but I guess that’s progress!
