To think PJs are much nicer than joggers?

Or other comfy/scruffy clothes/loungewear.

DH had a major OP 12 weeks ago. To begin with he wore the new PJs he bought to go into hospital, around the house. Navy blue button through traditional style PJs with a collar. He was comfortable and looked fine. Now, he's graduated to getting "dressed" in comfy joggers and an old fleece. OMG he looks like a tramp! He has a huge incision across his middle, so I completely sympathise with him wanting to wear something stretchy.

Similarly, I have a pair of PJ bottoms in a brushed woven cotton which hold their shape and look much better for lounging around than joggers do IMO.

When dressed for relaxing at home AIBU to think PJs are the best option? I'll add I don't mean the actual PJs you slept in.

@Greektome

There's a difference between being smart and not being slovenly.
What's wrong with being "slovenly" in your own home?

Setting aside the OP's convalescing DH - it has seemed to me lately that we're all being forced to accept jogging bottoms as the default lockdown uniform. I never liked them for anything but sport, and I refuse to be finessed by Style articles and insta into spending money to dress like a Teletubbie.

I'm fond of lovely thick brushed cotton pj type trousers, but in truth I aspire to a more romantic lockdown look with lots of layers of corduroy and velvet and Harris tweed and thick silk.

Ffs give yourself a shake let him wear what he wants in his own house

I hate tracksuit bottoms with elasticated cuffs on adults. I think they look horrible. Otherwise I don’t care.

I think a lot of prejudice against pj bottoms is that people associate them with sleepwear rather than loungewear. For instance, I don’t sleep in pjs, but I often wear a clean pair of pj bottoms at the weekend if I’m not going anywhere, once I’ve got up and showered. But to anyone who didn’t know better, I could be have just rolled out of bed without having a wash and be festering in my nightwear.

Have you thought that to your DH, the wearing of pyjamas during the day indicates illness. Perhaps he's sick to the back teeth of being an invalid and wants to wear actual clothes. Kecks are obviously out of the question and I'm assuming he is confined to the house. Even if he could go out, there is nowhere where you can buy a pair of smarter looking bottoms which you have tried on first to assess their suitability. Even if there was, I expect he'd only need them for another couple of months so what is the point in spending good money when there's already a perfectly adequate option available?

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 20/11/2020 22:59

You should count yourself lucky he's got bottoms on at all. I recently had surgery that left me with several incisions across my abdomen and stomach and my husband had to put up with me wandering round the house in just a t-shirt and dressing gown for at least a week.
If your husband is comfortable leave him be.

Ellie56 · 20/11/2020 23:06

You could always buy him some new joggers and fleeces that look smarter.

Greektome · 21/11/2020 10:08

Personally, I think you should wear things that you are happy to go outside in. If you are smart enough to pop to the shops or to answer the door to a neighbour or the postman, then that's ok. I don't think it's reasonable to do those things dressed in pyjamas. A person who wears pyjamas during the day is announcing to his family that whatever happens - eg some emergency, needing to take the bins out or to buy a bottle of milk - is someone' else's problem. It's not very grown up.

NeonIcedcoffee · 21/11/2020 10:09

Joggers don't have to be scruffy. Comfortable and scruffy aren't the same thing.

PleasantVille · 21/11/2020 10:13

I personally think that night wear worn by well adults during the day is a bit odd but there's no reason that should bother you, everyone can wear what they like in their own home, no need to take into account what anyone else thinks

nosswith · 21/11/2020 10:29

Tracksuit bottoms or joggers look awful whoever wears them. YANBU.

I think it shows progress that he is starting to get dressed of a fashion and i would be pleased he was feeling up to it. It doesn't matter what you wear at home although I quite like a man in a pair of joggers. I work from home and often wear yoga pants.
