To be tired of people asking if I've "more than one in there?"?

Ok I'm pregnant with number 2.

When pregnant with number 1 (last year) I had the most enormous bump. The rest of me was normal sized, but I'm short waisted so the bump looked MASSIVE sticking out over a pair of skinny legs.

Often people would see me and go "Whoa! How many you got in there?" or even ruder, "when's THAT coming out?"

Now I'm 7 months gone with number 2 and I know I'm going to get even bigger than this, this is nothing - but already the rude comments!

Any witty repostes to shut these fxxkers up ?

what about 'more than one what?'

Brangelina · 18/10/2007 13:48

I had exactly the same, I'm quite small boned and was a toothpick with a basketball belly.

I occasionally retorted that it only looked that big because I didn't have all the fat surrounding it that most people have. Usually worked better if the person making the comment was a bit "in the flesh". (cruel I know but it does wind you up).

Mostly I just smiuled benignly as couldn't be bothered to waste energy on a reply.

At I am going to give birth - what about yours??

It is awful being so large I know just how you feel now....

Wow thats mighty rude of you - said with a big fake smile

AnguaVonUberwald · 18/10/2007 13:49

I get this too, infact today a woman went on about it till I wanted to kill her - OH is it twins, it could be triplets its so HUGE, oh isn't it HUGE! - nearly punched her

pigletmaker · 18/10/2007 13:54

Thanks I'm glad I'm not the only one. I like the "wow how rude of you" smiling answer and

"one of what"

but fear I may well resort to "oh fuck off" by the time I'm almost ready to give birth!

I had the opposite actually - there is usually a fair bit of me and so the pregnancy didn't show as much - so I got lots of 'oh I didn't know you were pregnant' To which I wanted to reply - ' thanks for making me feel that a waddling gait and enormo-tummy is how I usually am'!

bubblagirl · 18/10/2007 14:01

i dont think you should take it as if they are being rude

i too was thin all over apart from a big bump but never took affence to how many have you got in there i used to just laugh and say yeah i know but at least the rest of me isnt big

just enjoy being pregnant and pay nop attention to your size or comments

Mungarra · 18/10/2007 14:38

I had this from people at work - 'are you sure it's not twins' - 'oh, this is going to be a big baby' etc. One time I said, 'when did you train to be a midwife?'

TheApprentice · 18/10/2007 14:39

I had this all the time. think you just have to develop a thick skin.

pigletmaker · 18/10/2007 18:16

Well I haven't a thick skin or a long fuse so I'm going to use some of the suggestions and my own "fuck off" when driven to it.

thanks everyone!

I used to get 'You're not very big, are you sure you're pregnant?'

chibi · 18/10/2007 18:25

I was about 6 1/2 months when people started asking in a concerned way when i was starting my maternity leave. By month 8 no one said anything, merely gawped at my majestic girth.

I too was asked by many a person if I was sure 'there's only one in there'. I always wanted to say, 'yes, yes there is, i'm having a fricking litter you ninny' but chickened out was too polite.

JARM · 18/10/2007 18:29

im getting the same.

This is my 3rd baby, but im carrying him a lot different to the girls. With the girls i just looked fat, with this one i am all belly.

I really do look like i have a basketball up my top.

I was sat in the doctors 2 weeks ago waiting for my ante-natal and some random bloke asked how long i had left (i say 8 weeks) and then his jaw dropped and asked me if it was twins.

Im more annoyed of the "ooooh not long to go now" comments from complete strangers - ive started to hibernate because i cant be bothered with "actually i still have over 5 weeks to go" and their responses of "ooooh big baby then"

GRRRRRRRRRRRR

pigletmaker · 18/10/2007 18:36

The worst I had was with DS1 from a woman in a local cafe. She said "ouch" and sneered.

I laughed and said " it will be fine"

and she actually laughed at me and said "fine! - that !?!"

so I held my head high, smiled beatifically and sauntered off. BUt I was pretty upset that she would want to scare a first time mum that way for no reason.
