To book a family day out during GCSEs

It'd just be for me and the dc doing GCSEs and would be their Xmas present but is a fixed day two weeks into the exams. My view is book it as a day to relax would do them good but would you ? I can't decide, they may say they want to stay home and revise.

I wouldn't. Everything is so up in the air at the moment, I wouldn't mind betting timetables change. HAve you even got the time table yet?

Only the date range.

Is it a Saturday? You can't surely mean a weekday?

Thatwentbadly · 19/11/2020 10:33

The GCSE timetable is very packed now and there is a good chance the will have an exam on that day.

Comefromaway · 19/11/2020 10:33

I take it you mean during half term?

Under normal circumstances I would say yes if its in the half term week rather than at the weekend but I'm not sure if things will change next year with covid.

Thatwentbadly · 19/11/2020 10:34

*there

Yes, a Saturday. No way would they be having it in a weekday, I hoped that was obvious as I'm not stupid Grin

Tbh you have no idea how your child will be feeling by then, so probably not worth booking as you could well lose your money.

Seeline · 19/11/2020 10:34

NO way - without knowing hte actual dates of exams. I assume it is a weekend, but even then, they could have 10 exams the following week!

sophandbridge · 19/11/2020 10:35

It'd be the last Friday of half term or the Saturday.

nemeton · 19/11/2020 10:36

The problem is some people would mean a weekday! Grin "well, why can't you move the exam?" "He can sit it the next day..." I've heard all sorts...

Nottherealslimshady · 19/11/2020 10:37

No definitely not. They need to focus. And I'm pretty sure we had some exams on Saturdays.

Sleazeyjet · 19/11/2020 10:38

Madness. Pure madness.

Comefromaway · 19/11/2020 10:39

I would only book a Saturday if it was part of the half term week as an entire day out at the weekend could disrupt their revision schedule.

Suze1621 · 19/11/2020 10:39

I wouldn't book something that would be a big disappointment if cancelled. A relaxing day mid exams may be great, but you won't know until the time.

MrsMariaReynolds · 19/11/2020 10:39

Can you not book the date for after the exam period? Or is it a one-off kind of thing?

TeenPlusTwenties · 19/11/2020 10:40

No. Because
a) they may well run revision sessions over half term.
b) your DC needs to have the flexibility at that time to decide for themselves what time off they want to take and how they want to use it. A fixed day booked 6 months in advance is too restrictive imo.

ExclamationPerfume · 19/11/2020 10:41

No way. You have the rest of the year to book something.

Seeline · 19/11/2020 10:43

Mine just wanted to chill watching netflix or sleep if they had spare time during exam period. A whole day out could be very restrictive.

nosswith · 19/11/2020 10:44

I would not book something that far ahead. The idea of a Saturday day out in the middle of exams is a good one, especially if your child is not one who can take breaks/stop without being asked to or reminded.

It's a one off event.

Often schools run revision sessions that week. I'd not risk it.
Comefromaway · 19/11/2020 10:48

I would definately book the Saturday if its the start of half term. Be a welcome break after the first two weeks of exams.
