How would you feel if your boyfriend of a year bought a printer for you as a birthday gift?

OP posts:
LEELULUMPKIN · 18/11/2020 21:05

If I wanted/needed a printer I would be very happy.

sapnupuas · 18/11/2020 21:06

An ex once gave me £10 in a generic card.

I'd have been thrilled with a card!

LouiseTrees · 18/11/2020 21:07

Giving I’m working from home for the foreseeable I’d be delighted

Enough4me · 18/11/2020 21:08

Happy, it's useful and better than flowers that just die. But, I like gadgets and working from home a new printer would be great.

Regularsizedrudy · 18/11/2020 21:11

Depends if I needed a printer

Notthisnotthat · 18/11/2020 21:11

I would love a printer, trying to choose one at the moment, it's a minefield. Why are some printers cheaper than ink? It's cheaper to buy a printer than replacement cartridges.

hopeishere · 18/11/2020 21:14

Did you you want a printer?

Sparkletastic · 18/11/2020 21:19

Id feel bored and certain that he's a shit gift giver.

Travis1 · 18/11/2020 21:20

Would depend on where I sat on the need/want scale for a new printer

SparklingLime · 18/11/2020 21:20

Grim, unless you’d discussed it or he knew you really, really wanted/needed one. And even then it’s utterly lacking in romance.

vincettenoir · 18/11/2020 21:34

If it was out totally out of the blue I would be a bit perplexed. But if I did need a printer I would think it was thoughtful if not very exciting.

x2boys · 18/11/2020 21:38

@sapnupuas I had an ex who sent me a valentine's card in which he had written all the bestHmm,

villamariavintrapp · 18/11/2020 21:44

My husband got me a printer for my birthday when we'd been together about a year. We've still got it, 8 years on.. we do really need a new one now. Maybe I'll put it on my Christmas list!

Ashard20 · 18/11/2020 21:44

Depends whether he also wanted a printer and can now enjoy the benefits. Then it would feel a bit naff. But my husband gives gifts like that sometimes and I know that he genuinely does it to improve my lifestyle. For example, last Christmas I got a Kitchenaid kettle. I was a bit perplexed, until he pointed out, with pride, that the water could be set to heat to different temperatures and I would no longer have to leave my coffee for ages before I drank it, as I don't like my drinks too hot!

x2boys · 18/11/2020 21:49

I think that's very thoughtful of him @Ashard20!

Ashard20 · 18/11/2020 22:24

@x2boys Thank you - so do I!

mam0918 · 19/11/2020 18:29

how new is new-ish?

like a printer is an expensive gift if you have been together 3 weeks

if you have been together 1 year+ then you should know each other at least a bit... do you like practical gifts? does he? what was the thought process?

I personally find it a 'generous' but 'dull' gift. It could be far worse but if we hadnt been together long it might make me reconsider as the honeymoon phase should be the most fun, if hes already 'dull' and 'boring' me then how bad would it be a decade down the line.

user1493413286 · 19/11/2020 18:32

I’d think that in future I need to tell him what to get for birthdays; assuming I didn’t already have a brand new printer I’d think that he was trying to get me something practical and thoughtful.

Shoxfordian · 19/11/2020 18:34

Did you say you needed or wanted a printer?

pinkdragons · 19/11/2020 19:08

What did you get him for his bday?

Were you thinking / talking about buying a printer anyway?
