I'm 35 and I wouldn't go to one unless it was a hen night.

talulasmum · 18/10/2007 11:43

There will be people MUCH MUCH older than you. And anyways, who cares? Are you really ready to NEVER go dancing again? Go out, have fun

talulasmum · 18/10/2007 14:00

purpleduck; oh yeah, i know no one will ever see me again. just gonna have fun!

lorayn; cant believe your only 27.

How exciting. I'd love to see some of the mum's from ds's school strutting their stuff in a club!!!

Seriously, mid thirties is NOT too old.

RGPargy · 18/10/2007 14:12

Oooo motherFunk!!! Let me know if you need any DJs!! I'm out of action atm due to being pg, but when it gets to April/May i'll be back out gigging!!

I'm 39 btw!!

talulasmum · 18/10/2007 14:23

motherfunk;

i know its not really old, but i've been out of the it for so long, have this vision of everyone being 18.

It's great because it's dark in clubs so you can be whatever age you like. Put on loads of make up as subtlety is not desierable, nice bright clothes, have a drink or something before going in to boost your confidence, and you'll have a great time.

Mid thrities! That's so young.

MotherFunk - I play hard dance - hard trance, hardcore, oldskool hardcore, that kinda thing. Might not be to your club's taste!

boo64 · 18/10/2007 14:51

I was dragged into a club for the first time in years a few weeks ago for a hen night. I'd love to say that when I got there it was great fun and say you'll have a fab time when you are there but I found it dull and wanted to sleep way more than I wanted to be there once we got much past midnight! But I don't drink more than 1 or 2 either (don't start me on that - my last mum's night out they all made me feel like I was so dull because I wouldn't get drunk).

I'd much rather have a nice dinner out and some good conversation.

At least the smoking ban means you no longer have to come home wreaking of smoke.

I think I'd still (at 34) worry about being alienated from the others if they all went and said no by the way. Time I grew up I guess!

Wizzska · 18/10/2007 16:01

Talulasmum - I can't stand clubbing. Did loads of it when I was younger, but am totally over it now (am 33). You are not being unreasonable. For me it would be torture to have to endure a night in a club. I wouldn't even go if my best mate begged me to.

StIncognita · 18/10/2007 16:08

Simple rule of thumb - if you think you are too old for something, you are.

I think I'm too old to go on the ride-on toys at the supermarket. If I went on them, I'd look stupidly self-conscious (and so would my children)

I don't think I will ever be too old to eat Pez, though, so I shall do that right into my denturage.

UnquietDad · 18/10/2007 16:15

But some club nights are aimed at 30somethings, aren't they? 70s and 80s nights and so on.

Eddas · 18/10/2007 16:22

too old, nnnnnnnnnnnnnooooo. I'm 28(nearly 29) and still go out, although not to real club, club IYSWIM

My aunty is 50+(sure she'd love you all to know that) and still goes clubbing. She says that when her kids were young she stayed home and my uncle went off to rugby etc so this is her time to go out, also my mum(her sis) died 4 years ago and she says she'll do what she can now and enjoy the things she wants to do.

Oh and on some of ours girls nights out a college of my frined comes, she's 50ish and we love her coming she's brilliant.

But if YOU don't feel comfortable then definately don't go.

StIncognita · 18/10/2007 16:22

"club nights are aimed at 30somethings"

Mother of bear, UGD, I can't think of anything that would be more hideously embarrassing. Well, maybe tucking my skirt into my pants on a day I'm wearing a thong, but that's about it.

StIncognita · 18/10/2007 16:23

That'll be UQD. Doh!

onefootinthegravy · 18/10/2007 16:26

From the title I thought you were going to say that you were way older than your mid thirties!!
I'm 38 and still go, now & then I never feel that old really - TBH - as long as you pick the right place you'll be fine - just do your homework that you're not going to a club full of teenyboppers!! There's loads of clubs that cater for 20's, 30's & 40's - Go for it !!!

talulasmum · 18/10/2007 18:48

motherfunk;
how old do you have to be before you look a bit silly in a club, or are they "ageless" these days.

one of the mums (i think) is about early fifties.

lovecat · 18/10/2007 21:01

Well, I went to G.A.Y. in my 40th year and it was FABULOUS, darling! Go, you'll love it!

And no WAY will you look old (unless you're wearing a cardi, of course ) - go, have fun, burn up the dancefloor!
