Bobbin bikes

Apologies if this isn't the right thread, it was hard to choose topics from my app

I really want to treat myself to a new bike and the bobbin bikes have caught my eye. Has anyone got any feedback at all? As they as good as I think they look? Or more style over substance? It's a lot of money to spend on an online purchase if they aren't good quality/ comfortable to ride!!!

Any other recommendations for similar bikes appreciated
Thank you

Very style over substance - if all you're doing is a short, flat ride on decent surfaces itll be fine. If doing anything more you might struggle due to very limited gears and them being very heavy bikes

I have one, I like it. I’m not a massive cyclist, i use it for around town, it’s easy to ride, and i love the way it looks. But it depends what you want to use it for, pottering about mine is lovely

mumtobabygilrl · 18/11/2020 19:23

@DIKateFleming interesting that you find them ok, would you say they are very heavy too?

I get what you are saying about buying the lightest bike you can, iv only had mountain bikes before I wouldn't say they were that light but I did ride them ok

Disappointing feedback is the quality isn't great

I commuted all over London for work and leisure not on a bobbin but on a very similar Dutch / sit up and beg style bike and loved mine. I didn’t ever cycle any very steep hills often though!

mumtobabygilrl · 18/11/2020 19:34

@Shantotto do you know what brand the bike was so I could take a look online?

I have the 24 gear one because I need a sit up bike for my back. It's very hilly where I live and it's fine!!!

It was a Charge Lazy Susan. Unfortunately not available anymore but it’s the most beautiful bike in the whole world!

Have to say because I needed 18+ gears and sit up Dutch style there wasn't much choice, in fact not sure there was any!

mumtobabygilrl · 18/11/2020 20:08

@Shantotto oh it is lovely isn't it

OP posts:
mumtobabygilrl · 18/11/2020 20:08

@RandomMess so you recommend them then

It exceeded my expectations but if you don't need many gears then you can look around at other options.

I love sitting up properly and could never go back!

I used to have a proper Dutch bike no gears and back brakes! Then I had one made by Redy with 3 gears but here was way too hilly for that!

RandomMess · 18/11/2020 20:25

The handle bars on my Redy were more sweeping Sad

PiccalilliChilli · 18/11/2020 20:27

Have a look at Pashley cycles.

mumtobabygilrl · 18/11/2020 21:11

@PiccalilliChilli ooooh they look lovely! Can't seem to find info about their weight in the specs though.

OP posts:
DIKateFleming · 18/11/2020 21:39

It didn’t feel to heavy to me, but I’ve only had relatively cheap bikes before, so it felt lighter than that.

I looked at Pashley’s too, but they were more expensive, and i went to a local specialist dealer to look at a few in this style, and they recommended the bobbin as being better made

Handsnotwands · 18/11/2020 21:47

I’ve got a pashley. They are heavy but beautifully engineered so you kind of glide. Depends on what sort of cycling you’ll be doing.
