Woodlice

A few years ago DP and I used to rent a house which was infested with woodlice, it was a horrible old, cold house which I couldn't wait to leave, I would wake up in the morning and the kitchen would be plastered in them, it reduced me to tears on a few occasions as I was so fed up. Not just the kitchen, they could be found in any rooms. They are just one thing I absolutely can't abide, they make me feel sick.

We now live in our own home, not an old house (around 10 years old) no damp at all. Been here 6 months and in the past week I've came across 3 dead ones. One on my landing and 2 in the living room. Just came across another one by the side of my sofa. I have to deal with disposing of them as DP is away during the week. Is there anyway at all I can stop these horrible bastards coming in and making me feel one edge? I refuse to walk anywhere in the house without slippers on now. I'm inspecting everything to determine whether it is just sock fluff of woodlice. Very OTT but the last experience scarred me a little and this time I don't think DP will allow us to move because I found a few woodlice. Do I need to put the heating on more, will that help? Advice welcome!

givemethecreeps - we didn’t have a huge issue but we would see several a day, urgh. I live in military married quarters and all the houses on the patch have problems with woodlice. Underlying damp I guess that the MoD contractor never resolves.

I would say within a week they had gone. Hopefully it’ll work for you.

Woodlice curled up where I grew up in East Anglia. They don't now I live in the North West.

Anyway. We have a problem in our rented house due to the flower beds around the outside of it. Do you have anything like that?

We tried a lacquer spray thing on the skirting boards which helped a bit but not completely. Will be checking out the plug in repeller.

We've had quite a few woodlice in the house this year which we've never had before. Our house is only 10yrs old as well and not damp, I've no idea where they are getting in or why.

I keep giant African snails in a bio-active enclosure. Woodlice live with them and eat their poo, so I don’t need to clean it. The whole enclosure is overrun with hundreds of them - you wouldn’t want to live in my house!! 🤣

Thank you all for your replies, I've took note of the suggestions and I am kind of glad it's not just me! Also I looked up the rubber duck things and they do look creepy as hell! 🤮

I fucking love woodlouse. Used to keep them as pets. They’re amazing! That’s a bloody crustacean you have in your house. How mad is that!
