To ask what you think is the best water filter system and why? Keen to get rid of the chlorine taste of London water and drink healthily!

I've noticed that London tap water is now tasting really unpleasant.

Years ago we used to have a Brita filter, but found it a bit fiddly and just sort of stopped. I'd also rather use something that isn't plastic when filtering water, given plastic leaches into water.

A friend has just got the Berkey and swears by it.

Others have the very swish under the sink variety - but I imagine you can only get that if you are doing a kitchen refurb??

So love to hear what you've done and why!

Oh and my goals ....

  • Be healthier
  • Taste nicer
  • Be better for the environment
  • And ideally not cost too much .... but if its a long-term investment I am less worried about this

Leave the water in a jug, in the fridge overnight and the chlorine taste and smell will disappear.

Tap water in the UK is perfectly healthy. We have some of the cleanest municipal water supplies in the world.

As others have said, just get a big jug you can put in the fridge and put water in there overnight. The very small amount of residual chlorine will degas and the taste will go.

Took the words right out of my mouth

And if you are worried about plastic, use a glass jug

I use the Black & Blum 1 litre glass bottles with the charcoal filters. A bit expensive for the initial layout but the charcoals last 6 months and the water does taste really nice (and I’m in London where the tap water is rank IMO).
