Just that really. Lighthearted, fun, relevant.

The super valu one really did make me cry actually - I won’t be seeing my parents for the first time on Christmas Day and it just got to me.

@BlindedByTheWork

The chap who said he didn’t sing happy birthday while washing his hands actually made me LOL.

The Asda one annoys me as there are SO MANY people in the house... why didn’t they reflect that this would be very unlikely??

Asda one I felt myself on the side of the "grinchy" neighbour

a) who the fuck puts santa hats on flamingos (and sings to their food?)
b) as you said there were a lot of people in that house...bet they've been breaking covid guidance all summer and she's sick of it Grin
c) those lights are excessive and hideous - why would you want them shining in your front room for six weeks - think of the pollution....I'd be asking when they are coming down too

I thought the twist would be (given this year's emphasis on loneliness, helping out your neighbours, communities coming together, etc) that they'd invite her to bubble and spend christmas with them, or at least enjoy a socially isolated drink in their excessively illuminated front garden but nah, the message seemed to be "christmas is for families and if you don't agree with our exaggerated jollity and overconsumption you're a scrooge, have fun listening to our screaming over sugared children through our joint wall...."

It may be that as someone with very noisy and loud neighbours I am overthinking this Grin

I have to say McDonald's has been the best this year.

Very disappointed in John Lewis advert , I was hoping another Edgar story ! I bought my son the teddy last year

HOkieCOkie · 17/11/2020 21:56

Yeah I think Tesco got the mood spot on! Everyone needs a laugh and it is very funny.

EasterIssland · 17/11/2020 21:59

I like it!!

sapnupuas · 17/11/2020 22:01

The Tesco one is the worst!

Spied · 17/11/2020 22:02

My vote goes to the 'Plenty' kitchen roll Christmas ad. Hilarious.

sst1234 · 17/11/2020 22:22

Coke ad is worth a watch

ViciousJackdaw · 17/11/2020 22:25

@MaskingForIt

I like the Sainsbury’s one. Mainly for the outrage of the snowflakes on Twitter it caused.
PMSL at all those people saying they cannot relate to a black family but go gaga over a talking carrot.
Funkypolar · 17/11/2020 22:26

I’m just glad we haven’t been subjected to an advert of children singing “Fix You” to their grandparents via Skype.

Newpuppymummy · 17/11/2020 22:28

I like the McDonald’s

SushiGo · 17/11/2020 22:30

Tesco makes me smile everytime it's on. Well pitched!

On the bit more emotional side I like Sainsbury's gravy one and McDonald's, both about growing up in a sweet way.

Jinglebellissimo · 17/11/2020 22:36

All the horrid controversy aside - I don’t like the Sainsbury’s one - It strikes me like a bit of a rip off of the food love story ones which Tesco do. A bit boring.

Asda one is the best

It's the pocket tap of our time

Pamelaaaaa · 17/11/2020 22:39

I love the tesco one, definitely the best of the year. Closely followed by the coke one. John Lewis did nothing for me this year and I'm usually a big fan.

sapnupuas · 17/11/2020 22:42

You're all bloody mad!

Jinglebellissimo · 17/11/2020 22:44

@sapnupuas aw come on - it means we aren’t all on the naughty list Smile

I wonder what the point us though.
I like the Tesco one, the McDonalds and Amazon. Will it change how and where I shop? Nah! Zero chance of me buying a McD. Tesco is only second choice if I can't find what I want in Sainsbury's (unlikely), I almost certainly will buy some stuff through amazon, though I will try elsewhere first, but no more than I would have DBE without the wonderful ad. But it's a shame they only seem to show the edited version now. Have only seen the full version once.

5foot5 · 17/11/2020 22:55

Done not DBE. Blowed if I know how that happened

user1495884620 · 17/11/2020 22:57

Why does Waitrose have someone looking suspiciously like Rolf Harris spying on his neighbours with binoculars? Very weird.

Jinglebellissimo · 17/11/2020 22:58

@5foot5 hmm - I do t think anyone switches supermarket because of an ad - but I’ve certainly made trips to JL before because of the ads as I’m a sucker for the merchandise. That does with the ads. And usually end up buying other bits there as well.

Yes Tesco wins this year. I love that baby with the red I heart Capt Tom outfit makes me laugh everytime.

kirktonhouse · 17/11/2020 22:59

I can't believe that there's only one mention of the plenty ad? Have you not seen it yet? It wins Christmas 2020 easily.
