Arrrgghh wink at it ffs

I’d unplug it, unscrew it and take it apart then break the wire inside. If your boss asks you were concerned it wasn’t working properly so you tried to fix it!

We are a small business and noticed one day about three mo the ago that cameras had been put up in varying places.

We don't handle high value but we have stock and retail to sell.

We wernt told they were being put up and on the day I noticed the boss kind of brushed them off and said they're for keeping an eye on stock shelves due to stuff going missing (stuff doesn't go missing, just she's crap at stock count Hmm) and quite often if the numbers aren't quite right will instantly say it's been stolen Hmmin a snarky manner u til I re count and it's correct.

Anyway to the point on the odd occasion when the boss has been off (which is as much as possible)I've got the odd message saying to make sure doors not propped open in kitchen (this is because when it's propped open she can't see the camera )
Or that she noticed what time we finished etc etc.
It makes me feel really uncomfortable and untrusted which after over 20 years of service is a kick
In the teeth Hmm

To be honest in the few months since they've gone up it's been hectic due to Covid so I've forgotten how much they piss me off

Read your contract. Monitoring of employees and enhanced monitoring of contractors / temps can be standard in many industries. It’s usually done via spy/productivity software as it’s cheaper and easier to pull insights - maybe mention that to your manager as a cost saving suggestion

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 18/11/2020 07:51

Block it and put blutack over the microphone if you want to immediately stop any monitoring but I would always ask openly about this sort of thing - asking shows you are confident and have nothing to hide

It might meet with an unfortunate accident while you swat a fly or a wasp imo.

If you want to know and ask in an innocent way, you could just say, oh is that camera, I won’t want to put lenses in at my desk, or some such.

It’s shocking that we’ve reached this stage.

Start talking to it.
Look right at it and talk about the weather.

In a very Fleabag sort of way. Like you’re narrating your life. 😂
