Ok so when I was about 5 or 6 I used to listen to two cassette tapes my parents let me ‘have’. I played them over and over and knew all the words off by heart as I played with my little ponies etc.

I was born in 83 so mid to late 80s?

I have such fond memories of this time and I would LOVE to listen to it again - I’d settle just for the playlist!

It was a set of two cassettes, each in their own case and the cases both had the same front cover but one said tape one and the other tape 2. They have a close up of a clown in white paint and a red sponge nose - not a creepy clown. All you could see was his face.

Some of the songs were:

Bohemian Rhapsody
We will Rock You
Karma Cameleon
Stand and Deliver
Brown Girl in the ring
Ra Ra Rasputin

Struggling to remember any more for certain

Does anyone have a clue what I’m on about??!!

OP you said the clown wasn't creepy.....

SpillingTheTea · 17/11/2020 00:21

@YenneferOfBattenberg

I’m glad you found it but...mate...seriously...that clown you’ve just posted is the epitome of “creepy clown”.

This!! Shock

Coming soon to a storm drain near you... Sad

The thing is IT isn't even scary. I'd be more scared of the one on the cassette cover. Hey Georgieeeeeeeee

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

I haven’t a clue. One thing I can definitely tell you is , It had to be out after 1991 as that was the year Bohemian Rhapsody was born. I used to love the my little ponies oh and the Care Bears. Grin
Freddie Mercury died in 1991. Bohemian Rhapsody was out in 1975 On their album “a night at the opera”
Sleazeyjet · 17/11/2020 00:33

Bohemian rhapsody was in Phil and teds excellent adventure.

It came out in 1989. I just checked.

You must be thinking about Wayne's world which made the song popular again

I remember those! I don't think they were the original recordings though. I think they were all recorded by session singers.

Oh dear.

Bohemian Rhapsody was number 1 when I was born in 1975 and then number 1 again when I turned 16 following Freddie's death.

I don't even want to think about Wayne's World.

cheesemongery · 17/11/2020 01:12

Please no.

Freddie Mercury announced in November of 91 after appearing looking very gaunt and ill at the brit awards (BPI awards?) that he was suffering from AIDS.

He died the next day.

That is what made the song number one again.

BangersAndMush · 17/11/2020 01:17

That clown is horrendous

Blueberries0112 · 17/11/2020 01:20

Maybe you are right. But I was about 13 years old at the time in America and knew very little about the queen. This was the first time I heard the song (through Wayne's world)

PimpleMoose · 17/11/2020 01:31

Is there some joke thats going over my head? First that thing about Bohemian Rhapsody being 'born' in 1991, now the below?

Bohemian rhapsody was in Phil and teds excellent adventure.

It came out in 1989. I just checked.

It wasnt in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, nor Phil's.

littleacceb · 21/04/2021 14:36

I had this tape as well! Just thought of it again yesterday as my children were singing "Mahna Mahna".

I've managed to piece together most of the songs but I'll always remember my absolute favourite was a song Little by Little (originally Dusty Springfield, later covered by Tracey Ullman) but this was in a real Irene Cara, dramatic style and nobody seems to believe it exists!

I think you and I have a very different idea of what constitutes a “creepy clown”

ignatiusjreilly · 21/04/2021 14:52

@littleacceb was it this?

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

Surely you don't really believe that to be true?

Osirus · 21/04/2021 17:38

@Rinoachicken

I agree about the clown - WAY creepier than I remembered it being!!! - and I was sure it was a mans face and a sponge Jose - but as soon as I saw it I knew it was the right one. Isn’t it funny how our memories get muddied about some things, and yet as soon as I saw I could so clearly see the brand new carpet I had in my room that I got to pick, could hear the ‘click’ of the cassette case I would close it carefully when I’d finished, and that plasticky rattle sound as I dropped it into the tape player before pouring over the track list printed inside - really happy times.
It probably didn’t seem creepy as a kid. You’re much wiser now...Grin
HelloChompy · 21/04/2021 21:04

Memories Grin we had that tape too Grin

Laiste · 21/04/2021 21:12

I'm glad OP has found her cassettes.

But the Bohemian Rap stuff here is so confusing Grin
(not a queen fan so no idea who's right about any of it!)

littleacceb · 20/05/2021 12:07

Ooh not quite. I need more heartfelt and a slightly higher pitch. I think @tectonicplates might be right - it may be session singers.

DPro · 20/09/2023 10:14

Hey there. I remember it and was just trying to find it. It was a double casette and my brother bought it for me for Christmas. The 2 songs I remember most on it were Daddy don't you walk so fast and the frog song chorus by Paul McCarthy. I loved it.
