Is it just me who didn't realise Clarks and Sports Direct are both temporarily closed?? Had to order online and pay next day delivery (shoes falling apart, only told this morning Hmm) but obviously hoping size is correct.

AIBU to think actually school shoes should be on the essentials list?!

And to those of you wishing schools would relax their uniform rules for this, I noticed on my newsfeed this morning a story about one lad being put into isolation for going to school in his black trainers because his school shoes had completely split. Family were waiting for the online order to arrive. His shoes looked unwearable with the sole having totally come away at the front. So some schools are certainly being idiots about this. I think it was a Daily Mail link but not sure.

Yes this is what I'm worried about. God knows what my ds does to his shoes but one day they're fine, the next, they're wrecked. I've bought a cheapo £15 quid spare pair for emergencies.

Or you can go to a supermarket, try on and buy them there and then.

My local supermarkets are not letting people try on clothes or shoes.

This was a bastard in Wales. Not only were these types of businesses closed but we weren't allowed to buy things from supermarkets either. I needed a replacement for school uniform and my sons sizes were out of stock online or would take an age to arrive.

During the first lockdown my 1yo started walking and I needed shoes. You couldn’t buy the gauges anywhere for love not money. I had to print off a paper measuring guide thing and it was a total pain. I then needed to order multiple pairs as I didn’t really have a clue on size due to dodgy measuring. Fortunately one pair fit. I used to have a Saturday job in Clarks so confident fitting (and had a lot of training at the times but I found it hard at home with a crappy bit of paper. Said child has now had a growth spurt and I’m hoping can stretch another few weeks as I don’t want to buy her shoes online again.

Just to update this, I ordered two pairs so we don't get caught out again and paid for next day delivery.

Got a call from school this morning - before the shoes had arrived and with the others glued together(!) - to say DC was in a group that needed to self isolate...so they were being sent home. Arrived home just in time for the shoes to arrive Grin

All that stress and money for nothing!!
