To go to Tower Bridge for my exercise

I would have to drive there (from South London so not far) which I think is ok but has anyone been during lockdown? I want to take the kids and thought it might be a nice walk without all the tourists (don't have anything against tourists obviously, just don't like the busyness). Are any boats going up the Thames at all? Thank you!

Is that where Bridget walked accross the bridge?

namechangefail2020 · 16/11/2020 17:34

@grassisjeweled yes it is!

Yes you can drive for exercise. We visited London in June before everything opened again - it was an experience we’ll never forget!

namechangefail2020 · 16/11/2020 18:53

Thanks @TheRuleofStix, I guess will be a bit busier this time around but still should be nice

I had visions of you climbing it ...

nosswith · 16/11/2020 19:18

They have these things call trains in south London. Walking along the Thames is exercise.

Go by car and you probably have to pay the congestion charge.

bigTillyMint · 16/11/2020 19:19

Do you have a plan for where you will park?

TheDowagerDuchess · 16/11/2020 19:19

I might actually take your idea of walking along the Thames!

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 16/11/2020 19:19

There are so many reasons why people might not be able to walk or take public transport, particularly now.

katy1213 · 16/11/2020 19:27

Haven't been for about three weeks but yes, it's a nice walk - and you could carry on through St Katherine's Dock and down to Wapping. Doesn't seem to be as much river traffic as usual - I don't think Thames Clippers are running - but there's more swans, and enough boats to give you something to look at. Children might like to see HMS Belfast (not open, of course).
But I wouldn't drive - just get a bus or Tube, they're fine.

namechangefail2020 · 16/11/2020 19:56

@nosswith thanks for your concern but it's not practical as I live somewhere with no step free access and have a double buggy. I know what I'm doing Smile

@bigTillyMint yes I booked parking on an app

I live nearby, it's almost empty in comparison to normal times so super nice and a great time to take photos!

TheRuleofStix · 16/11/2020 19:58

@namechangefail2020 it was amazing! We were the only people on Oxford St at 10:30 Saturday morning!

WhereamI88 · 16/11/2020 19:58

boats/river bus are not working though so don't plan on taking the thames clipper (think it's called uber boat now)

namechangefail2020 · 16/11/2020 20:00

@WhereamI88 thank you, sounds great. No I wouldn't dare take the clipper anyway, not with my two haha

@katy1213 thank you, sounds fab. I drive everywhere, it's no big deal even into the city, I can't take public transport from my area. I like that the kids sleep in the car on the way home too, ideal!

Tower Bridge is the eastern border of the congestion charging zone, so probably not.

Sounds like your children are quite small, but they might also like the Golden Hinde; which again is closed but you can get a good view. And that contraption in Hay's Galleria might keep them amused long enough for you to grab a coffee.

Lightsabre · 16/11/2020 20:52

Just check whether your parking is in the congestion zone - it's 24/7 now. We live in SE London and are really enjoying going into town at the weekends - it's so much quieter. Yesterday we enjoyed the little French market off Marylebone High St and walking round the lovely houses.
