To think it's pointless to vacuum then dust?

So every time my partner does any cleaning around the house he does it in a strange order. He always vacuums and/or washes floors before he dusts furniture or wipes down kitchen benches. He swears this is the best way to do it.

AIBU to think this is completely pointless? That you should clean from top down because all of the dust, dirt, and crumbs are just going to end up on the floor?

I think that it's less efficient.

But it's a lot better than doing only one, or neither.

From my perspective, someone else doing it in that order is a heck of a lot better than me doing it in any order, so I would not do anything to discourage them.

If they generally responded well to such inquiries, I might ask why they do it that way, and gently suggest they might be more satisfied with the result if they changed it up. But it's usually pretty annoying to have others nitpick how you do housework, so chances are I'd keep quiet.

I'm old enough for HE too.
I thought it sounded bollocks back then but it must be more so now with powerful vacs instead of a sweeper.

I vacuum and then mop (obviously where I can mop!) as vacuuming kicks up dust

hoovering throws dust everywhere.

  1. wipe kitchen surfaces etc.
  2. Hoover
  3. Dust.
  4. Mop.
