Cancel wedding lose money / hope for best

Christmas 2020 wedding was postponed until December 2021.

We've already spent around 30% of our budget on deposits etc - we have more money due in December (20% ish more)

Would you go all in and hope for the best? Or assume things won't be better by then and cut your losses?

Still get married of course but just not bother with a venue or party!

Go all in....Ots over a year away

LG101 · 15/11/2020 20:32

I would be tempted to carry on for the 2021 date. Why do you have to pay more a year before? It’s normally deposits then paying full amounts months before?

arewethere · 15/11/2020 20:32

My brother faces the same dilemma. Worst case is they will have a minimum person registry do and have the whole shebang in a few years as a blessing.

cancelwedding · 15/11/2020 20:35

@LG101 we managed to delay a venue payment whilst things were all kicking off with covid but understandably we need to pay it now

Next December - id probably do for it tbh

Phoenix21 · 15/11/2020 20:47

Next Dec should be fine. I’d pay at least £100 on a credit card just in case for protection.

cancelwedding · 15/11/2020 21:03

@Phoenix21 thank you - good shout!

I would not plan a big wedding for 2021. I’d cut my losses or ask to reschedule the party for late 2022 at the earliest.

cancelwedding · 15/11/2020 21:08

@GlowingOrb there'll be no wedding industry left if that's the next time big weddings can go ahead....

Can you still get wedding insurance?

cancelwedding · 15/11/2020 21:18

@Bwlch doesn't cover covid - venue burning down etc only
