my nan is really ill and this is likely going to be . . .
. . . . can't even write it down but I want to get them something special.
together, separate just something that let's them know how much I love them both.
born in the late 40s if anyone can give me some ideas I'd be really really grateful

I’m very sorry she’s ill. Surely something personal would be best though? Something you know she loves?

Goldenhedgehogs · 15/11/2020 21:13

If they wear spectacles I bought mine a personalised glasses cloth with a photo of the kids on it.they loved it and said it was too nice to clean glasses and used to put it on display on a cushion!

upsetandang · 15/11/2020 21:32

that sounds great where did you get it?
@Goldenhedgehogs

and @user1473878824 I know but I have just blanked i can't think of anything good. I've been able to gamble previous years and its never mattered because there's always next year.
I want the perfect present but searching through the Internet for nan gifts ends up with pages of cups and keyrings. i want something a bit better

How about something from the year they got married eg CD of music from that year or DVD of news showbiz events
Collage of photos
Picture of a meaningful place to them both

Ohtherewearethen · 15/11/2020 21:36

A newspaper from the day they were born?
A photo book of them through the ages?
A family photograph of all the generations together?

Ohtherewearethen · 15/11/2020 21:37

Naming a star/rose after them

JaceLancs · 15/11/2020 21:37

Not easy under Covid and depends on how poorly she is but I took my parents for a posh afternoon tea to the hotel where they spent their honeymoon (Lake District) and got them a watercolour of their favourite beauty spot
DF had a stroke a few months later and died just over a year ago at 93 - I still remember what a fab day we had and treasure the photos

user1473878824 · 15/11/2020 21:39

Of course, sorry, I don’t want you to think I was trying to be nasty! I am terrible at presents so always feel very stuck. Hope someone can suggest something fab x

There are loads of sellers on eBay but I ordered this one, very happy with it.

Rather than buying something, could you do something? Like treat them to a special meal, where you prepare the table, and wait on them with food you have prepared? And take a nice photo of them dining together and frame it?

Personally, I would love something like this rather than a shop bought thing.

The last gift I got my Nanny was a beautiful locket with a piece of my wedding veil in. I knew it would be the last one as she was so unwell in hospital. She really loved it and we spent ages looking through wedding photos together. It now hangs above my dressing table and it's so nice to remember how happy it made her. I think you can get a cufflink version too, and obviously use any fabric rather than just wedding lace! She also loved photobooks and calendars.

I hope your nan feels better soon, it's awful when someone you love is unwell.

It was similar to this: www.thelacestudio.com/products/custom-sterling-silver-necklace-large-pendant

SIL created a photo book with a selection of the best family photos for FIL plus a few of his childhood. It was lovely because although the photos were usually packed away in cupboards.

A few years ago we got all my grandads old videos he recorded from the 50s/60s/70s put onto a DVD he loved it, even cried watching it and hadn’t seen them in over 30 years and they included his wedding to my granny. If they had any old videos you could get them transferred to a DVD.

The things my gran has loved most are having my grandpa's old cine films put onto DVD (and digital cloud versions but she didn't really understand that) and a digital photoframe we can send pictures to remotely. It has a memory card we loaded before we gave it to her and frequently send new photos to it, she said 'it's absolutely magical this new technology' and thinks she's very with it 😁. It has pride of place in her living room and she and my grandpa often sit with a cup of tea and just watch the photos, some old, some recent, talking about times we've all had our things we are all up to now. They don't have social media and it's a lovely way of them having pictures of grandchildren, great grandchildren etc especially during this time when we've barely been able to see them.
