Manager keeps booking Covid tests for me

Jimbellselmbath · 15/11/2020 13:18

We have on site covid testing at my work. No need for symptoms, anybody can have one. A few people go just for 20 minutes away, most don't want one as they do not want to isolate and lose 2 weeks wage (plus partners wage I suppose) if they were to test positive with no symptoms.

Anyway, I don't think they are getting the uptake they anticipated and suspect there are targets managers are being given for testing.
I keep getting texts saying 'your covid test has been booked for xyz' I have not attended any of them.
I had a message on my screen yesterday from my manager saying 'can you do me a favor, I have booked you a covid test for xyz' I still didn't go, manager is off site and there is no way of replying to her.
Today I got a text saying my test has been booked and I must attend even if i do not plan on taking the test (automated type texts- cannot reply)
I don't know whether to go or not. I won't be having the test but I don't think the testers would have any way of stopping these messages as surely they don't have access to that system?
Manager isn't in today, we only cross paths about once a month, i wouldn't know how to contact her outside of this. There are other managers who are more accessible, should I ask those? Is it an HR matter? Do I just keep ignoring the messages as they have not been promoted by me? I feel like complaining about the sneakyness of it all but I don't know who to.
What would you do?

And I do think it's properly shitty of an organisation to refuse to support staff financially should they have to isolate as a result of a test provided in that workplace. Should probably have said that earlier.

Nicknacky · 17/11/2020 14:33

Cockadoodledoo You are a hypocrite. All of you are that are criticising the op.

Caroncarona · 17/11/2020 14:40

Ah yes this opinion right? 👇

Grow the fuck up and take the test. They won't keep asking if you actually have the damn thing

Yeah I disagree with your eloquent opinion.

Cockadoodledooo · 17/11/2020 15:11

Hypocritical how? I've tested and isolated when required plus as I've said I've actively asked my employer for regular testing. Which I obviously would then comply with.

And read the op. To me it's the sane as my dc complaining I keep asking then to tidy their rooms. If they just did it I wouldn't need to keep asking. Op's manager would stop the incessant requests if the op took the test.

Nicknacky · 17/11/2020 15:37

Cockadoodledoo You got tested when you were required to do so. If you want regular testing then put your money where your mouth is and pay for it? Or do you only have a social conscious when someone else is paying?

That’s not what the op is being asked to do. You are asking her to go above and beyond what you are prepared to do. THATS hypocritical.

And don’t dare comparing it to your kids tidying their rooms FFS. People can’t pay the bills!!!

Cockadoodledooo · 17/11/2020 15:47

No I don't only have a conscience when someone else is paying. I'm aware people can't pay their bills. Nor would I be able to if I had to stump up for testing every fortnight. I understand op not wanting to test BUT she herself said that her behaviour is low/no risk so having the test that her employer clearly wants her to have shouldn't cause financial hardship at all.

Nicknacky · 17/11/2020 15:51

Cockadoodledoo Why don’t you have more of a think about this. If all her colleagues get tested then the need to self isolate will still be there when they test positive.

She won’t need to test positive, she would have to self isolate if certain colleagues test positive. Therefore she will not be paid while isolating.

But hey, as long as it’s for the greater good then she should suck it up.

Cockadoodledooo · 17/11/2020 16:14

@Nicknacky why are you so angry about this?

Op's colleagues may or may not be getting tested and so she may have to isolate whether she agrees to be tested herself or not. Close colleagues here have tested positive and in line with organisational protocols and 'covid secure working environment' we're still here working. Scared of getting it again because I'm vulnerable? Oh yes. Scared of giving it to others who are even more vulnerable than me? You bet.

Anyway I've got work to do I'm afraid so won't continue to debate be told off by you

Nicknacky · 17/11/2020 16:19

Cockadoodledoo I’m angry that people like you don’t care about people like the op. Just sit in your houses, unaffected and uncaring about the financial disaster that people are being plunged into.

And big deal that your working. I’ve been working throughout too.

Caroncarona · 17/11/2020 16:20

Ahh, the why are you getting angry tactic designed to shut people up. Seems to me that nicknacky has been quite polite and reasonable. Using words like grow the fuck up strikes me as a more angry position to take. But you do you.

Cockadoodledooo · 17/11/2020 16:30

Ha! I wish I was 'sitting in my house' but I'm actually in and out of vulnerable people's homes all day. I've never said I don't care about people like the op, I've worked zero hours contracts so know about not getting paid if you're not working and the stress and worry that causes but if you take the op at face value it states "my boss wants me to do this, I don't want to but they keep asking. How can I get them to stop?" and my response to that is that the op should do the thing.

Nicknacky · 17/11/2020 16:35

Cockadoodle I didn’t say you worked from home.....

Caroncarona · 17/11/2020 16:44

Ha! I wish I was 'sitting in my house' but I'm actually in and out of vulnerable people's homes all day

In which case you definitely need to be testing regularly. Weekly in fact. The op isn't in the same sort of job.

Cockadoodledooo · 17/11/2020 16:45

You literally used the words "sit in your houses, unaffected and uncaring" which actually couldn't be further from the truth. Doesn't fit your narrative and assumptions you've made about me though. I'm not engaging further.

Nicknacky · 17/11/2020 16:47

Cockadoodledoo I’m sure you do sit in your house at some point?🤷🏻‍♀️. And you have shown with your “grow the fuck up” comment that you don’t care.

That’s not a very caring thing to say.

Caroncarona · 17/11/2020 16:50

sit in your houses, unaffected and uncaring" which actually couldn't be further from the truth

Well I hope you are sitting in your house whilst you're arguing on Mumsnet, not in clients houses. Not very professional to be engaging with this when you should be engaging with vulnerable people.

Loverofoldfilms · 18/11/2020 09:53

I cannot believe that anyone would endanger their colleagues by not taking a test. This attitude may just be the reason why the UK is doing so poorly with the pandemic.

I can't believe that anyone would choose to endanger their family - in the form of risking two weeks unpaid from work, thus being unable to pay the rent / mortgage / bills - by taking a test.

The fact that there isn't financial support available to anyone who's self isolating, can't work from home and isn't on benefits, leaving people unable to afford to self isolate, is one of the reasons why the UK is doing so poorly with the pandemic.

dazzlinghaze · 18/11/2020 10:48

Well said! @AvocadosBeforeMortgages

Moonmelodies · 18/11/2020 10:51

Seems the boss of Test & Trace, Dildo Hardin, is now self-isolating.

PurpleHoodie · 18/11/2020 11:21

Spitting Image needs to be put directly onto ITV hub and not that Britbox thing Grin

nitsandwormsdodger · 18/11/2020 12:17

You need to tell them why you don't want a test they need to address that
It's food prep I assume ?
I'm glad your workplace is being v safe
Shame they haven thought it all through
