To expect items in Asdas reduced section to be use by todays date

Went to Asda this evening. Picked up some things for tea and in the reduced section was some carved chicken. Reduced twice which was even better but there was a box full of them so reckoned they just over ordered and were getting rid .
Back at home and unpacking I noticed the use by date was 11th November !

11th fucking November .

Im doubly cross. One that this was on sale today 3 days past safe use and two because I now have nothing for tomorrows lunch . I didnt want to have to go to another shop unnecessarily .

Plus if I want a refund It means another trip to Asda which I usually on go to EOW.

I was relatively on an even keep before this and now Im just annoyed and cant enjoy Strictly . Grrr.

Chicken DEFINITELY shouldn’t still be in the reduced section that long.’
I’d be phoning/emailing/tweeting.

Brighterthansunflowers · 14/11/2020 19:25

Email them with a photo and a copy of your receipt, say you can’t make a special trip to get them to fix their error and ask for a refund

Titterofwit · 14/11/2020 19:38

Ive looked at Asdas website an cant see how to make a complaint via the site or by email.
I could just be so annoyed that Im missing the link.

I do have the CEO email but maybe thats over doing it just now...

I voted YABU because you should have checked the date when you picked it up.

Asda clearly shouldn't be selling it though.

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2020 19:46

I agree Asda should not be selling it, but I always check dates before buying anything in the Reduced section because I am never sure whether to use/freeze etc.

Just take some pictures, keep your receipt and get a refund when you are next in store.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 14/11/2020 19:47

Human error. Annoying, but it happens. I'm sure they'll sort it, but sorry you've nothing for tomorrow.

kowari · 14/11/2020 19:48

I would have checked the date, but it shouldn't be for sale if it's chicken. Fruit and veg I wouldn't be fussed.

W3dontdoduvets · 14/11/2020 19:57

You could call trading standards, it’s illegal to sell food past its use by date. Or you could just shrug it off. Def get a refund when you can though.

Pbbananabagel · 14/11/2020 19:57

Do it over Facebook- I found a bug in a bag of salad from Tesco and got a near immediate response

DryRoastPeanut · 14/11/2020 20:17

Yabu for referring to dinner as tea

TheStripes · 14/11/2020 20:19

You will be able to Tweet them and they will send you a refund if you send a picture of your receipt.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/11/2020 20:19

It was an error and no. You don't need to go back. Just take a pic of receipt and the chicken dates and email them. They are very efficient. Well that 1 time I had to use them

Titterofwit · 14/11/2020 22:40

@DryRoastPeanut

Yabu for referring to dinner as tea
Yeah thanks for that . Forgot I had to conform to your southern preference when describing a meal.

They get fined for selling out of date food. Raise it. Asda is notorious for the amount of out of date food on the shop floor is horrendous. Knowing about their practises put me off shopping there.

dootball · 14/11/2020 22:46

Lets not forgot you were still planning to eat it after the use by date anyway!

OopsUpsideYerHead · 14/11/2020 22:49

I’m in the south and me and my family all say tea, I didn’t know it was a crime Confused

As others have said they are breaking the law by selling out of date stuff, take a photo and email if you can find a customer service department. They might give you a voucher or something.

My DH came home with a chocolate fudge cake which looked lovely and we were looking forward to. Then I happened to notice the best before date was 4 days ago. So annoying!

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 14/11/2020 23:03

Absolutely contact them, and ask for something to cover the inconvenience

FWIW, businesses can get very hefty fines for exactly these offences www.foodmanufacture.co.uk/Article/2020/09/30/Out-of-date-food-lands-Tesco-with-160k-fine

Papergirl1968 · 14/11/2020 23:08

It will probably be fine. If it looks ok and smells ok, I’d eat it.
I got a big pack of wafer thin chicken for 10p and two packs of ham for 5p each in Morrison’s on Thursday. The pets are happily eating the chicken and I had some of the ham for lunch today and probably will tomorrow and monday.
I’m quite blasé about use by dates and never been ill yet.

AlwaysLatte · 14/11/2020 23:23

YABU to let sliced chicken ruin Strictly. But take it in next time with the receipt and definitely get a refund and complain, someone else might have not noticed the date and eaten it.
