To think that Donald Trump comes across well in this video

He argues that wealthy people in NYC shouldn't be allowed to live in rent controlled apartments because it's not fair on people of lesser means. I agree with him and think he made the point well.

A shame he wasn't more like this as POTUS!

Was this at the same time he advocated that three innocent black men were put to death for a crime they didn’t commit?

Ifailed · 14/11/2020 15:32

Are you on glue?

Wankerchief · 14/11/2020 15:35

Fuck glue, I'm assuming shes shooting meth directly into her eyeballs

Hopoindown31 · 14/11/2020 15:35

A stopped clock is right twice a day.

Trump is out and I for one am delighted about that. He deserves no attempts at redeeming his character.

RizzleDrizzle · 14/11/2020 15:35

My point by the way is you can’t judge him on one interview especially when you research what he was like back then.

He was exactly the same as Potus - racist, aggressive, unappolgetic and over baring!

ArcheryAnnie · 14/11/2020 15:36

If you really think Donald Trump was advocating there for the right to raise rents on a development he owns, in order to make those properties available for people who need rent controlled apartments, well, I have a lovely bridge here to sell you.

(But perhaps you may already have a bridge.)

Dongdingdong · 14/11/2020 15:37

Absolutely - my point is simply that in this particular interview, he comes across well (and makes a good point about rent control). It's the only time I've ever agreed with him on anything!

No, but I have had a few beers.

Hic!

AlexaShutUp · 14/11/2020 15:38

I don't know whether you were watching a different video from me, OP, but I watched it and thought he was every bit as much a twat then as he is now.

calamityjam · 14/11/2020 15:39

Don't need to watch it to tell you he would've had an agenda. The guy is the ultimate self serving shithead

Exactly!

Then @Hopoindown31’s answer is the only one.

A stopped clock is right twice a day

Even if you think you agree on something doesn’t mean he’d have been any better as potus just cos he got one thing right in your opinion.

He was, is, possiably always will be a racist mysongistic bully of a man with pretty much zero redeeming features

Even his cringe worthy cameo in Home Alone 2

myneighboursarerude · 14/11/2020 15:42

Didn’t he call for the death penalty for the Central Park five who were later acquitted of all charges whilst simultaneously blaming the rise in crime in the increasing population of black Harlem?

Hitler was a vegetarian, everybody has their positives.

.

DT was just looking for an angle to justify what he did. Also making allegations to justify his global opposition to rent control. Manhatten is very unaffordable for most of the residents without rent control.

All the usual techniques are there. Step 1: Denial. Step 2. Say that what he did is what "anyone" would do if given opportunity (eg., fight against paying tax, insist on his definition of fairness). Step 3: Appeal to people's sense of resentment to justify his own actions. Step 4 Accuse his enemies of doing what he himself did. Step 5: name-calling. Step 6: Hyperbole "most corrupt administration in the history of the city". Step 7: Blaming other countries (more cultivating resentment). Step 8: "is there something wrong with that?" wanting to screw his enemies. Step 9: one sided Loyalty

So much mention of his love of litigation.
Funny how in 1987 that he says he can say what he thinks because he's not running for office

RizzleDrizzle · 14/11/2020 15:45

Yes he did that’s what I was referring too only I said three instead of five!

StrawberrySquash · 14/11/2020 17:13

Yes, but he didn't want them out out of concern for the poor. He wanted them out because they stood in the way of him making money.

Hitler was a vegetarian, everybody has their positives.

Iirc he was still arguing for them to be put to death AFTER they were acquitted.
Silverstripe · 14/11/2020 17:55

The reason Trump was opposed to rent controlled apartments was because in 1981 he bought an apartment block which he wanted to tear down and replace with luxury condos, but he couldn’t because there were a handful of rent-stabilised tenants living there.

Please don’t confuse that for some kind of altruism or compassion, even if he did used to be better at faking those things. This is a man who, as a landlord, was sued for issuing unfair lease violation letters, cut off hot water and heat, put a stop to building repairs, and raised law suits for unpaid rent that were thrown out of court for being spurious and a form of harassment - all because he wanted rent-stabilised tenants out of his building. He was also sued by the US department of Justice for refusing to rent to Black tenants and lying to Black applicants about whether apartments were available.

This interview is not evidence of man who once has some compassion. It’s evidence of a man who has only ever looked out for his own interests.

Silverstripe · 14/11/2020 17:58

Hitler was a vegetarian

Hitler was not a vegetarian. He was advised to follow a vegetarian diet by his physician, but frequently broke this regime to consume favourites such as turtle soup (as confirmed by his former personal chef).

donquixotedelamancha · 14/11/2020 18:34

Hitler was not a vegetarian.

Yeah, but he was still a git.
