Is this enough water for a 2 year old?

When I have dc who is just 2 years old typically they will drink like a fish going through a good 5/6 207ml cups of water a day. However when she is with her dad she'll only have 300ml-400ml in a day. I've tried to look up what a good amount is for a two year old and there really doesn't seem to be a real ball park figure. She also doesn't seem to eat as much at her dads.

I just wanted to see if other parents thought 300-400mls isn't enough? Also I'm not sure if dad just doesn't offer or leave dc drink where it's in reach or if dc just won't drink.

Doesn’t sound like enough to me.

I just looked this up and the recommendation for a 2 year old is roughly a litre. So your child isn’t getting enough water when with her dad, in all likelihood.

Sounds like rather a lot when they are with you and maybe a but under when they are with dad. The ideal amount is probably somewhere in the middle. My dd has never taken much liquid compared to ds - different thirst levels i suppose

How do you know how much she drinks there? Surely he could just give her drinks throughout the day/refill her cups and you would be non the wiser? Or has he told you he's worried about it?

@InDubiousBattle we provide this information to each other after dc became dehydrated and needed medical attention.

If it's around a litre she will usually drink 5/6 cups (her cup is 207ml) so just over a litre. It's just a case of the clear difference in how much she is drinking and I obviously don't want her getting dehydrated.

Does she have other fluids there e.g. milk, watery foods, etc

Survivingastorm · 13/11/2020 16:16

No milk and from the info he gives me not many foods high in water. Just wondering whether it's worth raising it to him as dc is often very thirsty and doesn't do a wee for a good few hours on their return. But we don't exactly get along well so I don't want to cause an argument.

My daughter drinks very little water despite it being constantly available and actively offered every hour or so. She does get through about 600ml of milk a day though so I'm hoping that's balancing it out.

Survivingastorm · 13/11/2020 22:04

@Flev, I think the milk counts towards your dds intake and so long as she is passing urine you're good.

Issue I have is knowing how much dc typically drinks and also them returning home and not passing urine especially with the past issues. Having said that my ex argues with me over dc nappy leaking so he'll have a great old time arguing about this. And while currently he has dc for one overnight soon that'll become two overnights and I just don't want dc getting dehydrated.
