Have I been living under a rock?

I honestly thought Ariana Grande was more Taylor Swift than Cardi B....

Jokes aside. She just didn’t strike me as one for profanities in her lyrics. I’m no prude but I would happily have let my 8 year old be a fan without thinking about checking out the lyrics first.

Oh yes, totally. Her song side to side and many more..

Nonamesavail · 13/11/2020 14:02

I still think of her as Cat Valentine 😅

Reborn2020 · 13/11/2020 14:03

It's when the 6 an 7 year old girl fans sing along and gyrate whilst wearing similar clothing/lack of it ......yuck

Sparklfairy · 13/11/2020 14:18

I knew I was old (30) when Bang Bang came out and I was shocked that such a catchy tune that kids would sing was a not-so-thinly-veiled song all about having sex ... Bang bang all over yoooou, wait a minute let me take you therrrrre, ahhhhhhh Grin

I've realised a lot of songs are like that and kids just don't know. Most adults don't know unless they really pay attention to the lyrics.

amusedbush · 13/11/2020 14:23

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Yes. There's a beautifully innocent video clip by Lewis Capaldi doing the rounds all about it not being about maths!!!!
I watched that on his stories when he posted it, it's funny Grin
notalwaysalondoner · 13/11/2020 14:26

I agree it's not new, I shudder to think of 8 year old me singing along to some Spice Girls lyrics, but even I did a double take when I first heard these lyrics about 'can you keep it up' on the radio... I just don't think it is appropriate or necessary even in pop music, especially for a star renowned for having a fanbase of mostly tweenage girls.

TatianaBis · 13/11/2020 14:30

Rock and roll has never been for kids. Ever.

If you want kid music listen to ABBA.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 13/11/2020 14:34

@Reborn2020 then that's the parents fault for allowing such young girls to watch the video.

jessstan1 · 13/11/2020 14:37

Twenty odd years ago kids were singing Alana Morisette about going down on someone in a theatre and hadn't a clue what it was about.

My generation could get no satisfaction!

I couldn't see anything objectionable in the lyrics the op posted here.

mikkyr · 13/11/2020 14:40

@peepercountry

She's 27 & obviously has sex, it's just because she presents as a toddler.
Thats brilliant!

I think it’s a shame as my 8 year old loves her as Cat - and she’s amazingly talented, but I can’t let her listen to the songs! (Yes I am a prude sorry...)

Blondiney · 13/11/2020 14:49

@PizzaForOne

Great tunes, love 34+35, break up with your boyfriend.

Also love WAP by Cardi

Ooh, you're so edgy!
Tier2Minus · 13/11/2020 14:50

That's why the paedos love her, right?

She presents herself like a little girl - but with added sex.

And it's all ok because - like a page 3 girl in a school tie - she's not actually a child.

Notcontent · 13/11/2020 14:53

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Enjoy

Gave me a much needed laugh 😂
mikkyr · 13/11/2020 14:55

So yes then.... I have been living under rock. I will endevour to get out more! ;)

Mrsjayy · 13/11/2020 14:57

Lewis capaldi " I did the maths so you didn't have too"😂

Look Ariana Grande is not far off 30 years old she is wanting to sing about shagging good for her!

jessstan1 · 13/11/2020 14:58

Oh that's horrible, I didn't realise she was a 'paedo pin up'. She just looks like a lovely girl to me. I remember when Britney Spears was young and dressed up as a sexy school girl but I don't see Ariana Grande in the same light (not that I've taken that much notice of her, being seventy I am 'old school').

Ketrina · 13/11/2020 15:01

Now sure how she presents herself like a toddler? Do you mean the voice/demeanor...? Her clothes, hair, and makeup, don't scream toddler to me.

Hiddennameforever · 13/11/2020 15:20

I am shocked.

Christmasbiscuit · 13/11/2020 15:22

It's fine for adults but the only people I know that listen to Ariana are kids.

Mylittlesandwich · 13/11/2020 15:25

Her albums since 2016 have contained explicit lyrics. I don't believe she looks anything like a toddler to me. I quite like some of her songs but there are many that aren't family friendly. This isn't new.

yellowmaoampinball · 13/11/2020 15:31

Just had a quick scroll through her insta, I can't say she 'presents like a toddler' to me. Not one picture of her with her wellies on the wrong feet for a start.

GodolphinHorne · 13/11/2020 15:31

@ShebaShimmyShake

You've been living under a rock if you hadn't noticed that this is the absolute bog standard career path for many female pop singers: start off sweet and wholesome and then do an about turn on sexuality to shock everyone. Janet Jackson did it, Mariah Carey did it, Britney did it, Christina did it, Miley Cyrus did it and loads of others. It must work, I guess.
Kylie. Don’t forget Kylie.
Beeeees · 13/11/2020 15:31

Would people prefer it if she had a BBL and a boob job? Let her live. Hmm

AriesTheRam · 13/11/2020 15:41

Her song side to side is about not being able to walk properly after good sex
