To think hamper is better gift than voucher for staff

Ok given everything going on this year I want to boost staff morale with a nice Christmas gift. Our budget isn’t large enough to give a meaningful bonus. We have about £200 spend for each staff member.

I like the idea of an F&M hamper - with staff either choosing the Wine or Christmas food hamper. My business partner thinks it’s a waste of money and that staff would appreciate a £200 department store or Amazon voucher instead to spend as they please.

Personally, I used to get an F&M hamper every Christmas from an old work place and I still have the hamper boxes in use to this day as blanket storage etc. Even though I would also get a £1000 Christmas bonus from that workplace it’s the hamper that I remember fondly and associate positively with the organisation.

So:

YANBU: hampers are a more personal touch
YABU: just give them the money, no one wants F&M fruit cakes

Waitrose/JL if you're going for vouchers - definitely not Amazon as so many people won't buy from them!

[quote longwigglylines]The All for One gift card is great - it's what we use for teacher gifts at my DD's school.

You can spend it at over 130 stores, in store or online. It includes everything from John Lewis and M&S to H&M and Primark. B&Q, Halfords, Pizza Express, Currys etc etc.

This link was the first one that came up but I think you can get them lots of places. I know our local post office does them.

I agree, a more general voucher or a choice is far better. I'd not be impressed with a John Lewis voucher as we're nowhere near any of their stores.

I have a dietary requirement, hampers are a fucking pain. Also the boxes are more clutter. I’d rather have £200 to spaff on alcohol of my choice

I love quality fruit cake and chutneys and things. Particular when made by myself or my family members. It's partof Christmas. And not just Christmas - my lovely DF just posted us a variety box of his homemade jams.

Getting a big hamper of shop versions of that sort of think would be awks.

@tigger1001

"My boss in my old job wrote out cards every year thanking staff for their hard work. The card was always really personal. I've kept them, as they did mean a lot to me - he knew me and I wasn't just a number."

*Same. I thought it would provide that special feeling that our lovely OP clearly wants to give their employees - but combined with a more practical £££ gift.

I like the idea of the supermarket vouchers for a big Christmas shop if it has to be vouchers. They're not going out of business soon. And presumably vouchers can be used online for those who are avoiding indoor settings for safety reasons.*

I don't drink and can't eat sugar so a hamper would be wasted on me. I would prefer the voucher every time.

I got a $200 supermarket voucher one year. It was the best gift.
It seems dull but every staff member used it within a the Xmas/new year period.

I love a hamper but in the current climate, where money may be a bit tight, people may prefer cash.

If you go for a voucher then I think Sainsbury's would be good. They are middle of the road as far as costs are concerned and people can buy their Christmas shopping or otherwise buy some presents for others.
