House getting hot at night!

Have been off work this week and hence sitting up pretty late (I usually go to bed around 1-2am as I work the late shift, so 'late' for me is 3-4am).

I'm currently renting whilst looking for a place to buy (moved fairly recently) and have storage heaters, which means I can run out of heat if I don't set them high enough the night before.

Most evenings I've had the built in electric heater on for a bit, often a quick blast every couple hours to 'top up', but without fail I've got the windows wide open after midnight. I thought it was the heat build up from my tv after Netflix binging for several hours, but tonight I've only been on my iPad and once again I've opened the window.

Is it the heat retained in the walls during the day releasing or something, or am I suffering the male menopause?

When at work I'm never in the lounge this late. My bedroom is significantly colder due to bizarrely not having a radiator, which I actually like as I like it cool when sleeping.

Do you have the output turned on full as well as the input?

I hate the storage heaters in my flat. They just make the room ridiculously hot at night and then they run out. I just use plug in heaters now when I need to warm the room up.

They're all turned off as it was mild today and yet I've got the window open. Earlier today I had the electric heater on!

My hearing comes on automatically if the temperature of the house drops below a certain level. I including tonight, have woke up roasting because the heating is blasting out.

But my point is that the heating's been off all day (and still is) and I'm now baking.

What kind of house/flat do you live in? Are you getting heat through the walls/floor from your neighbours?

BeanieB2020 · 13/11/2020 04:40

I had this in a former flat and think it was heat rising from the flats below me. Used to wrap ice packs in a towel and sleep with them!

LordLancington · 13/11/2020 04:44

I'm bottom floor of a fairly large maisonette, but maybe it's the water heater coming on or something. Having googled it could also be heat dissipating from the building itself as it gets cooler outside.

It's just weird that I had the electric heater on early evening and now all windows are open.

Modern insulated housing tends to get too hot. I sleep far better all winter with no heating in the bedroom and a, windiw open. Lots of people do. Electric blanket if necessary

And it's not cold. Friends went camping last week and found it warm enough.

Why don't you buy a room thermometer and see if the temp rises in the room. Then you can rule out you and see if it is the flat. If you stand next to the storage heaters are they hot?

100% not the storage heaters. Only other explanation is my having pigged out and had a few beers every night - could be my metabolism going into overdrive, but I doubt it.
