Am I supposed to return to work today?

I had the 29th off as I had Covid symptoms I tested negative OH tested positive on the 30th I was due in work on the 31st and let them know.

I've just had a call now that I'm supposed to be in, isn't it 14 days from the day my OH tested positive?

I only work Tuesday Thursday Saturday

But the test was taken on 29th so he was positive in the 29th (although results weren't available until 30th) so I think that means isolation starts from the day of the test

worstyearofmylife · 12/11/2020 09:56

God I'm so confused is today classed as the 14th day of isolation if we're counting from the 29th (test date?)

I think maybe you should have been in today then...oops

Comefromaway · 12/11/2020 10:00

I thought you said he was tested on 30th.

dementedpixie · 12/11/2020 10:02

I think they tested 29th and got results on 30th - is that correct OP?

worstyearofmylife · 12/11/2020 10:03

OH is saying today is the 14th day of isolation and I'm free to go out tomorrow. @dementedpixie yes that's right I'm going to call track & trace and see what they say.

So you can stop self isolating "after 14 days" have passed.

Tested on 29th October (lets assume mid-day
30th Oct mid-day - 1 day has passed
12th November - mid-day 14 days have passed

So no, you shouldn't be in today as 14 days have not quite yet elapsed since the test.

dementedpixie · 12/11/2020 10:11

29th would be counted as day 1 I think so day 14 would be yesterday

dementedpixie · 12/11/2020 10:12

This seems to count day 1 from day of symptoms rather than from a particular hour of the day

What does your info from test and trace say?

And have you had the 13 day call from them?

When we had to isolate recently we had a text from test and trace confirming our release date and then follow up calls on day 10 and day 13 to check we were still symptom free and confirm the day isolation ended.

It’s 14 days from positive test of a contact or when they show symptoms.

So if no symptoms it goes from test date.

If the positive test was the 30th then today is last day of isolation and tomorrow you are free to return to work.

dementedpixie · 12/11/2020 10:15

The test date was 29th

Mammaaof · 12/11/2020 10:17

If test was 29th you should have been in work today

MythsandSparkles · 12/11/2020 10:20

Actually, I’ve just checked my texts from test and trace - also a positive test on 30th October (I promise I’m not trolling)

Mine says we need to self iso until the 11th November - so I think yours should say the same? Although I make the 11th day 13 Confused

Our positive was totally asymptomatic - picked up by the hospital at a pre-op test.

dementedpixie · 12/11/2020 10:30

When was the test done though @MythsandSparkles? Was it done 29th or 30th?

MythsandSparkles · 12/11/2020 10:35

Ahh sorry OP, I thought you tested on the 29th and your DH got a test on the 30th.

If you were both tested on the 29th take a day off everything I said Smile

I think you should have been in work today.

worstyearofmylife · 12/11/2020 10:46

Thanks everyone yes I think I was supposed to if the 29th is classed as day 1. Hope that doesn't backfire on me now I've not been there long and still in my probation I'm gutted.

dementedpixie · 12/11/2020 10:48

Could you offer to work a different day to make up the hours?

worstyearofmylife · 12/11/2020 11:11

I'm going to ask her I just don't want to email her too much Blush

It's a genuine and easy mistake, and, tbh, your employer has some responsibility here .

When you called to tell them, did they not go through the dates and confirm everything, and confirm which day you'd be back? They should have - they're responsible if they let you work when you should be isolating.

Regardless, it's a genuine error, so just ring, explain and say you'll be in tomorrow.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 12/11/2020 12:17

I'm confused now. None of my messages have a date on (tested positive on 5th November, symptoms started on the 4th), they just say 10 days and 14 days, not a date.

MogHog · 12/11/2020 12:30

Track and trace have given me a definite date im allowed out. I had contact with the person on the 5th November. 14 days takes me up till the 19th, but track and trace say my isolation finishes 18th at the end of the day.
