To think PMS and hormone problems can improve after birth?

So, I have a history of PMDD and chronic migraine, and in the past have been crippled with everything from 16 week long periods on the mini pill, to interstitial cystitis on the mirena coil, heavy painful periods, chronic migraine, severe depression before my period, night sweats, bloating, anxiety...basically every hormonal problem going.

Now, I'm 6 weeks pp and not breastfeeding. When I was pregnant I was DREADING the pp period. I knew i was more susceptible to PND than most because of my history, and i was expecting all manner of hormone problems. I was also expecting the return of my migraines.

So far though, this is the happiest and most focussed I've ever been. I'm self employed and have been working in babys naps. And I feel mostly very level headed.

Of course I'm aware I've tempted fate by saying this! But this is quite a large improvement for me!

I'm 90% sure I ovulated at the weekend because I felt a tiny bit not like myself and had a few other symptoms, but nowhere near as bad as previously.

So now I'm wondering....is it possible that pregnancy can settle hormones down? I'm waiting for all my hormone misery to return....but....what if it doesnt?!

Not in my experience. My endometriosis symptoms ramped up massively after the birth of my youngest.

My agonising period pain stopped completely and has never come back. I also stopped getting cystitis every time I have sex, but I put both of these down to 'stretching' rather than hormones. I started getting awful anxiety, so went back on the pill once I'd stopped breastfeeding, but I suspect this is perimenopause (I'm early forties). I don't think it's unreasonable to think the changes could be permanent, just have to wait and see I suppose! Good luck!

My cycle and hormones have changed after each pregnancy and I’ve had five. Glad you’re feeling better :)
