Asking for a friend

Honest!
My friend (Wendy)had a relationship breakdown, so she could keep her house her son became joint name on the tenancy with Wendy.
They both work, however, with the current situation they are on reduced hours. Wendy earns around £600 a month, son earns about £850 a month.
They are struggling financially to pay everything, is there any benefits they can claim? UC? Housing benefit? Also, would it be a joint claim or can they claim individual?
Thanks

There is lots they can claim, have a Google of entitledto, they can also claim separately as they are not living together as a couple.

Uc is probably the best place to start

I should probably say, son is agency work so does differ

She probably won't be eligible for housing benefit but might be able to get a government loan to cover interest on her mortgage

HiyaMeAgain · 11/11/2020 12:11

She rents, not owns.
Would they get help with the rent?

Try entitled to or something, she can put in their income and situation and it will tell them what they may be eligible for.

She says she has tried on there but there isn't a way of saying that although they are joint on the tenancy they are not a couple. I'll have a look for her and see what I can find. Thank you

She could also have a word with citizens advice, they're really hot on that sort of thing
