to think that men's underwear is way more comfortable than women's?

My first AIBU post but felt I had to share my accidental discovery!

I am at my bf's place and realised on getting ready this morning that I had forgotten to bring any clean underwear with me. I didn't want to go commando as am wearing jeans (ouch the chaffe) so he suggested I wear a pair of his.

I scoffed at this but then realised i don't really have any alternative other than to put dirty undies back on (euw) so I put a pair of his close fitting trunks on and on my lord, they are so comfy!

They don't look attractive in the slightest but they come up to my belly button and I haven't had a single need to retrieve wandering fabric from anywhere it shouldn't be. It's a revelation and I'm not sure I'll ever go back...Grin

M&S full brief are the best I’ve ever tried. Lots of fabric, they’re soft and the elastic hasn’t ever given up the ghost. They get tatty long before the elastic gives out.

Big granny pants are the only answer IMO.

I like M and S men’s lambswool jumpers as well. I find their size small is equivalent to a largish size 12.

Women’s jumpers there are either cheap acrylic which goes bobbly quickly and is not very warm or cashmere which is out of my price range. The men’s lambswool are mid price and comfortable and warm and come in a range of colours.
In addition you can often find the more ‘girly’ colours in the sale as I suppose lots of men won’t wear rose pink.

I don’t really see the logic of choosing to buy uncomfortable underwear (or shoes for that matter) when comfortable alternatives are widely available and then complaining about how uncomfortable they are. We can’t blame the patriarchy for our own purchasing choices.

If you want comfort, as others have said, try M&S full briefs, or similar big comfy knickers.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/11/2020 13:21

Someone damn you! on another thread got me onto Oddball pants. You can get men's or women's boxers, and they are soooo comfy. I wait for an offer, but the first time I found a code online. No willy opening on the ladies ones, but other than that, the same as the men's.

DulcimerOfDestiny · 11/11/2020 13:36

Never tried men's underwear. The type DH wears don't look comfortable to me. Too much extra fabric that looks like it would only bunch up and add bulk. (They're the ones with the little mini-legs. Boxer-briefs?)

In any case, there are comfortable underwear for women, too, so long as you aren't overly concerned with them being "feminine" and pretty. Cotton, large enough and cut so they actually fit and don't migrate where they aren't wanted. No polyester, no frills or bows, no teeny tiny scraps of overpriced lace.

It's also helpful to not a crap if someone might possibly at some point see a "line" and realise that Shock you're wearing underwear. (Speaking from the experience of a very brief period wearing thongs to avoid the humiliation of being a known wearer of underwear.)

Granny pants all the way!!

Sunshineandflipflops · 11/11/2020 14:08

I don't wear uncomfortable underwear usually but I do find sometimes that my M&S undies sometimes dig in a little around the top of my leg/groin area, especially if I am feeling a little tender from shaving. I buy plenty big enough but not too big too have too much excess!.

They can also roll down sometimes but I have just found these men's trunks to stay put! I will have to check out the women's alternatives but if men's are cheaper then I'll be buying those!

I do have 2 pairs of thongs but it has been a long time since I've worn them. They are like weapons of torture and as a pp said, I would rather people see a line and live with the shame of them knowing I wear pants!

@KihoBebiluPute

Full Briefs (womens) from M&S use about 3 times more fabric than more "normal" womens undies and are a lot more comfy.
And predominantly worn by men if the reviews are anything to go by.
Nat6999 · 11/11/2020 14:35

I wear M & S boy shorts, the legs are cut square iykwim, the waistband comes up to just below my belly button, no riding up, no wedgies, stay where they are meant to, not sexy, no scratchy lace, stretchy cotton, I always buy a size bigger than I need, black ones, always wash well & come in packs of 7.

goldenharvest · 11/11/2020 14:52

It's because men do most of the designing so they are comfortable. Men design a lot of women's clothes hence they are not comfy

shartsi · 11/11/2020 14:55

Yes it very comfortable. I always wore DHs post partum, until bleeding stopped.

Emmelina · 11/11/2020 18:30

I buy lady boxers. Oh my gosh. I was never one for wearing a thong or anything anyway but they are a dream.

Lara53 · 11/11/2020 21:48

Oddballs ladies boxers are the absolute comfiest undies I’ve ever owned!

FortunesFave · 11/11/2020 21:59

Not only that but in terms of kidswear, boy's t shirts are FAR better than girl's. The boys are bigger, thicker and with decent, loose sleeves. The girls are cut smaller and tighter... like little girls need that. Angry

Mypathtriedtokillme · 11/11/2020 22:22

And girls have those stupid cap sleeves half the time.
Don’t get me started on girls shorts compared to boys ones.
Little girls thighs obviously are immune to sunburn... Just like their Upper arms.

Merrythought · 11/11/2020 22:36

Low rise lady boxers all the way. Can’t abide fabric around my waist.
Even swimming bikini bottoms are those awful half-cheek design so half your backside hangs out. I much prefer full coverage, at my advanced age.
