Local to me an rspca animal hospital has been pelted by fire works and a horse in a local field was blinded. Theres been multiple accounts of horse fields with multiple rockets etc in them.

Why arent the sales restricted yet?

I read a previous thread about fireworks in gardens and a lot of people were in agreement that we should be allowed to have them. There was little consideration given to animals - some posters said they don’t like dogs but have to put up with other people’s. While we live in a society where so many people go around talking about ‘their rights’ without acknowledging the damage these rights do we will never get rid of things that pose a danger to others.

Yes, they are a nuisance.

I understand that some people use them responsibly and sensibly but that doesn't counteract the misuse.

If someone gave me a gun I'd lock it away, unloaded, in a cupboard - that doesn't mean it's a good idea to legalise guns in the UK.

I hate them. So many misuse them and even if set off with proper safety precautions they still cause huge distress to animals as well as those with ptsd, sensory issues etc.

I'd love to see general sales banned. Fireworks only available to those with a license. Getting a license should involve having to attend a basic safety course and having access to a suitable place to safety hold a display.

@contrmary
Yes but rehabilitation is only necessary if you let the criminal out again. A (excuse my language) cunt who throws fireworks at cars, or puts them through letterboxes, or fires them at animal shelters with the intention of terrifying them, does not need to ever be released from prison once they are put there. It's doubtful that they can even be rehabilitated, so why waste money on attempting to when in many cases you'll be unsuccessful. Lock 'em up and throw away the key.

Agree 100%

@mrsmrt1981 someone purposefully tied a firework to a cat?! Or any animal?!

Shosha1 · 12/11/2020 05:22

Idiots in my small village have let fireworks off for four nights this month.
My poor dog is so terrified she now has a huge noise phobia.

Loud noises outside, whilst I was on a school run a day later caused her to destroy a door into the bathroom to try and hide between the toilet and the wall.

We had taken all precautions we coukd, crate, thunder shirt, plug in and spare adaptil.

She has now had to have prescription tranquillisers.

All because if bloody fireworks.

Jocasta2018 · 12/11/2020 05:45

If anyone with a firework went near an animal in my vicinity, I would not be responsible for my actions. Some people are horrific to those weaker than themselves.
Fireworks should only be seen through public licensed displays. They should not be available for private sale.

I have wondered on a few occasions if there have been more deaths and injuries from November 5th celebrations over the years than if Robert Catesby, John (Guy) Fawkes and the co-conspirators had succeeded.

On our local news there was a story about a dead rabbit found with a firework tied to it Sad

When we were all in lockdown I loved to see the videos and photos online about nature flourishing in our absence. I thing YANBU, the public can’t be trusted with fireworks. Even though it’s just a minority who misuse them, it’s not worth the risk.
