I have had significant mental health problems recently and am under the crisis team; was released from hospital after a section 136 of the mental health act.

The sertraline I think is already helping, but I feel so, so sick and can’t eat - any experience of this and if it passes quite soon?

Yes. Took about a week for it to settle. Its horrid but goes quite quickly then sertraline has been great for me

blindmansbluff · 09/11/2020 19:48

I've just started it today and my doctor told me nausea was one of the common side effects.

CathyTre · 09/11/2020 19:49

Thank you - have been taking for a week and just feel so much more stable to be honest but also so sick and really struggling to eat. I’m usually about 60 kg and have dropped two kilos already. It’s like morning sickness - not actual vomiting but constant nausea and fear that if I eat, I’ll throw up.

Thank you for responses; I’m trying to stick with it

yes it improves slowly ... bonus was I lost weight but the nausea for me improved first then a few weeks late appetite.
it was worth it .. stick with it

CathyTre · 09/11/2020 19:53

Ok I’m going to try and ride it out; will be worth it for stability mentally if it works. Thank you.

Yes, I think you might be right, I am a bit afraid to eat because I feel so sick.

I had the same and ended up switching to a different AD. Which was fine as it suited me better overall anyway. Just something to remember if you're struggling with side effects, there are other medications you can try.

goose1964 · 10/11/2020 19:32

My son was like that for the first few weeks but it passed.

Waveysnail · 10/11/2020 19:33

Eased slowly during first month - got better each week. Then was fine even when increasing dosage later on.

PenelopeCleary · 10/11/2020 19:36

Yes, took a week or so to settle.

gypsywater · 10/11/2020 19:37

Totally normal. Worth persevering. You're almost out of the tricky bit I'm sure.

SomewhereEast · 10/11/2020 19:44

I had that too with Sertraline. Its unpleasant but should pass. I think the usual advice is to allow six weeks for your mood to lift and for side effects to settle down. Anecdotal I know, but judging by friends' experiences different anti-Ds just 'click' for different people, with no obvious reason as to why. If Sertraline doesn't work for you longterm do give something else a go.

CathyTre · 11/11/2020 15:14

Thank you all - nausea still ongoing but I’m persevering - I need to give it a good go. Feel a bit more optimistic that it will pass now, thank you.
