I’m doing a local virtual Christmas fair.
I said no MLM and have spent hours removing people who ignored me and spammed the fair with MLM ‘hun’ messages.

I thought people browsing the virtual Christmas fair would not want to have to see loads of messages from MLM sellers. AIBU to remove them?

You are not being unreasonable at all in my opinion!

GroundAlmonds · 09/11/2020 16:02

Absolutely not unreasonable.

Is it a website or a SM thing?

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 09/11/2020 16:04

Your fair and you can run it how you want. Absolutely right to keep MLM out of it.

LividLaughLurve · 09/11/2020 16:05

Oh god you’re so right. Perhaps send the offenders a polite notice.

Marylou2 · 09/11/2020 16:06

Not only are you not being unreasonable you are being highly responsible. The 'hun' crowd won't only be selling their MLM tat they'll be touting for people to sign up too. You're doing everyone a favour by banning them.

JuliaJohnston · 09/11/2020 16:06

You are being the epitome of reason 👍

Leaannb · 09/11/2020 16:06

You are doing people a favor

Youngatheart00 · 09/11/2020 16:07

Absolutely not being unreasonable! Poor folk are getting loads of direct spam and via Facebook, insta etc - your Christmas fayre being a MLM free zone will be welcome respite.

Mousepad20 · 09/11/2020 16:07

YANBU. There are all these 'share your independent business' posts going about Facebook, but it's the same MLM people promoting the same big firms.

swashbucklecheer · 09/11/2020 16:07

What's MLM?

Fizbosshoes · 09/11/2020 16:07

First time I've ever seen a 100% YANBU (so far!)

thaegumathteth · 09/11/2020 16:07

100% agree with you

SnuggyBuggy · 09/11/2020 16:10

YANBU and the customers who want to buy from an MLM seller will probably already have a person they buy from. Online marketplaces aren't the place.

iMatter · 09/11/2020 16:10

God yes. Something popped up on my social media this morning about supporting local independent businesses during lockdown and every single one on the list is MLM

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 09/11/2020 16:17

@swashbucklecheer

What's MLM?
Multi-level marketing. Businesses that encourage people (usually mums) to sign up to sell their product. But they have to buy the stock themselves and are supposed to recruit other people to sell as well, to make commission on their sales. Usually accompanied by sone brainwashing about empowering you to run your own business and choose your own hours.

Younique, Herbalife, Arbonne, juicePlus are a few examples.

Should be illegal IMO as they are essentially pyramid schemes and most participants lose money.

SmudgeButt · 09/11/2020 16:32

Completely sensible to ban the MLM.

ZombieAttack · 09/11/2020 16:43

Ive been sent an invitation to a local Christmas craft fb group and it’s full of MLM huns.

‘I’m your local Body Shop consultant’ ‘Hi I’m your local Tropic consultant’. Etc etc.

I’m going to decline the invitation because I have no interest in buying from them or any glittery wine glasses which seems to be the other shit on offer. Shame really.

Funsize123 · 09/11/2020 16:47

Yes it’s a social media thing. It’s effectively a Christmas fair on Facebook with different categories that people can browse through. There’s some amazing businesses on there and I’m going to be broke as I keep buying stuff.
MLM sellers have messaged me saying I’m being unfair as they need to get an income too and then I felt guilty!

DinkBoo · 09/11/2020 16:53

I joined a support local small and crafty business page on Facebook yesterday afternoon, by yesterday evening I had left it as there was so much MLM spam.

YADNBU and I'm sure the group members appreciate your efforts.

ZombieAttack · 09/11/2020 16:55

MLM sellers have messaged me saying I’m being unfair as they need to get an income too and then I felt guilty!

They’ll all have a full time job keeping them afloat so I wouldn’t worry...

TerribleLizard · 09/11/2020 16:56

MLM preys on people with money worries so they’ll be profiting from the current situation. I feel for the people who get sucked in, but it’s best that they don’t get anyone else. Keep them out!

AnnieMaul · 09/11/2020 16:59

Not unreasonable IMO.
It's also not unfair, you don't owe anyone a living.
There are plenty of other ways to tout their wares that don't involve Christmas fairs.

Winterfellismyhome · 09/11/2020 17:03

YANBU. Keep it for just actual small businesses

CatsCatsCats11 · 09/11/2020 17:06

Sounds amazing what's it called

BrumBoo · 09/11/2020 17:06

Yanbu. In the slightest. Be prepared to be yelled at by bots for not 'supporting small businesses' though.
