Year 11 Isolation Work

Message from school at 6pm yesterday stating my year 11 child's bubble was to isolate. Great timing as it's GCSE mocks these next 2 weeks but that can't be helped. Heard nothing all day until a message just arrived (15.30) asking parents to make an appointment to go down to school & collect a pack of 'past papers' from reception. The children are to complete these at home & take them back in with them on their return to school. This is it. No online learning in addition & no plans to sit mocks at any other time.

AIBU to think that this is a complete kop out? They're missing another 2 weeks education & IF GCSEs go ahead next year, they'll have had no exam experience at all so will be at a huge disadvantage.

They could do the past papers under exam timings.
Then revise / look up areas they struggled with and have another go?

They aren't missing teaching because the others are doing mocks.

They can't do the mocks at home due to practical considerations.

Do they not have 'second mocks' in the Spring?

I feel your frustration.
My dd y11 is on her third lot of isolation now. She has all but given up on getting any form of decent gcse. Her mental health has really deteriorated with all this missed time and isolating.
She has missed all the revision catch up lessons for her mocks to.
It’s a disgrace that they think three weeks extra time at the end of the year can make up for this.
Guess those children who have been lucky enough to not need any time off this school year will be in a much stronger position than others Sad

According to my child there's nothing planned after these until GCSEs. I'm hoping he's wrong.

Can’t s/he work through them, make notes on the questions they can’t do and then use the wide variety of stuff online to revise those gaps? Oak Academy, BBC Bitesize, lots of dedicated revision channels on YouTube - all there, easily available and free.

It's worth asking the school whether there are further/other mocks, particularly if they have to go down the teacher assessed grades again this year. I know a lot of schools do mocks in Jan but my boy's school does them in November.
