AIBU to think there was literally nothing put in place for shielding children

We have a DC on the shielding list who is one of those who have not been removed. These don’t all effect us but some do and I think it just was not thought through and these families have been left with no point of contact.

  1. Children letters suggested that many were removed off list however 15,000 remained on list. To contact medical teams or GP to discuss as it’s a clinical decision - this was ok for us as we have a wrap around team and easy contact however some have really struggled to find out with their clinical teams.

The guidelines state that these children should not go to school however people living with clinically extremely vulnerable are able to attend work and school. The vulnerable adults will be furloughed or put on sick pay however parents of shilling children have nothing and obviously can not leave their kids home alone, so get not financial support.

A lot of these children may have complex needs like mine and no care packages have been approved for more hours.

Education - obviously unlike the first time these children are the only ones off school which means they do not have the same level of remote learning as last time.

I'm really sorry to hear this. It seems that those affected are a relatively small number (compared to overall population) but that does not mean you should be forgotten about!
At the very least financial support, if parents are unable to return to work due to their children officially shielding then help should be the same as if it was due to the adults shielding.
Have you written to your MP or anything like that?
It sounds very difficult for you, I'm sorry.

That sounds really tough, OP. Flowers

You're right that nobody seems to have thought through the support that might be needed for families in this situation. I agree with a pp that it would be worth raising this with your local MP.
