I think it's all positive steps.
Trump's going to have tantrums in front of his fans for at least the next two months (maybe the rest of his life) but there appears to be no official appetite to support his completely made-up charges of electoral impropriety and he won't overturn the result.
Is Biden amazing? No. Does he appear to be a normal, well-balanced human being who isn't ignorant and filled with spite and insecurity? Yes - so that's a big improvement. Johnson is more likely now to have to cut a deal with Europe without the US 'on our side' (though I maintain any 'deal' with Trump would be horrendously exploitative anyway because he doesn't want to deal, he wants to fuck people over). That won't be as good as, say... just staying in the fucking EU, but it's too late for that now.
I think the vaccine, if it can be implemented, is probably too late to improve winter much, but I guess it means opening up may be able to begin sooner in spring and it increases the likelihood that we won't see any more long-term, widespread school closures.
Masks and some sorts of social distancing will have to be with us for a while yet - even with a vaccine taken up, we can't just assume it will all be fine and just snap back to normal because effectively it's still a test and you don't want uncontrolled spread if things don't work as well or as long as expected.
If it wasn't for sodding Brexit we could be quite excited about next year!
