Is there any feature more useless than the fucking sink drawer

That bastard that you forget about, until you're looking around for space to put something. Then you look at it and it says "don't look at me love". It's bloody useless.

Surely this is the most useless design feature, yet it's endured for decades. Why??

We've got a ordinary cupboard under our kitchen sink. All our drawers are roomy and useful.

Wish my knickers were as roomy! 😆

MsVestibule · 08/11/2020 16:22

Are these still standard in new kitchens? Ours must be nearly 20 years old and it has a full size cupboard door under it.

To the PP who's kitchen has no drawers at all - I feel so sorry for you; that's one of the worst things I've ever read on MN. Where do you put your cutlery and general crap? I really don't want to brag, but we have six.

Sheknowsaboutme · 08/11/2020 16:23

I remember them when i was a kids back in the 80’s. We had a delightful blue formica kitchen.

isseywith4vampirecats · 08/11/2020 16:26

weve just had a new kitchen put in and deliberately went for a sink drawer as ours is a straight run and we wanted a drawer on the right side of the sink, and a cutlery drawer on the unit next to the sink it would have looked weird with no drawer in the centre of the three units, but all the other base units are full size doors with no drawers

Didntgetmydiamondring · 08/11/2020 16:28

@JeezLouisePlease
wow- I had no clue such a thing existed!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 08/11/2020 16:31

Baffled that there are people who don't know what they are!

@PenCreed. You need a tiny sink or a really big cupboard though. I wanted one, but I also only want a 60cm cupboard there & a decent size sink, so it's not possible, but I'm still looking into other options such as a panel that tilts forward, giving you just enough space for a dish brush, plug, etc

Utini · 08/11/2020 16:34

@MsVestibule I would think it depends on the design of the kitchen. We had one fitted last year which has a fake sink drawer, as we have a line of drawers along the top on both sides of the kitchen, with deep drawers and cupboards underneath. I think it would look odd if there was a break in the drawer line where the sink is.

LadyCatStark · 08/11/2020 16:38

I’ve never heard of such a thing!

WeCameToDance · 08/11/2020 16:38

I didn’t know these were a common thing! I’ll never forget moving into my house and pulling the handle on the sink drawer. It took me far too long to realise it wasn’t going to open Blush
I thought the kitchen fitter must have been drunk...

GeidiPrimes · 08/11/2020 16:42

Somehow I was once persuaded that I should have fake drawers on all of my kitchen cupboards so it matched the 2 real ones. Thankfully I don't live there anymore, things masquerading as something else really piss me off for some reason. Bastard things Grin

Oysterbabe · 08/11/2020 16:44

Well you learn something new every day. Under our sink there is a deep drawer that fits loads of cloths and cleaning products and under that another drawer that has the recycling bins.

BeigeFoodLover · 08/11/2020 16:45

@JeezLouisePlease

You need this OP. No fake drawers ever again.
We have this - it’s epic! Washing up liquid, cloths, foil all that shit! 🙌🏼
diddl · 08/11/2020 16:48

@PinkiOcelot

I haven’t got a sink drawer. Never had one.
Phew!

I'm not the only one!

glitterelf · 08/11/2020 16:49

My Bil has a habit of breaking these in all the other family members houses Confused

dementedma · 08/11/2020 16:57

Never heard of a sink drawer. We don't have one

JuanNil · 08/11/2020 17:05

@Itchybush bet he felt a bit of a knob 😂

@isseywith4vampirecats you... you opted for a sink drawer?

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 08/11/2020 18:59

I'd love a sink drawer!

I love a bit of nifty kitchen storage. Does anyone have kickboard drawers?

The corner unit swingy-outy contraptions look ace. I weirdly don't have any corner units in my kitchen due to a chimneybreast but I'd def consider them in a future kitchen.

Nailgirl · 08/11/2020 19:01

@Choccyp1g

You can really hurt your hand if you go to open it in a hurry.
Oh yes, the bugger is there for when you are running around looking for something urgently and you bloody yank it and do yourself damage
